I think she will have to choose between getting 1-1.5k trade
or getting the A-Plan.

With the A-Plan, that sounds like a $300 to $500 trade-in vehicle.

Ask your uncle about this before you just assume you can get a grand out of it from the dealership.

02....lets just say...a guy wanted to trade his vehicle in but you knew he had some issues with it that Ford could not resolve. You didnt want the vehicle on trade and told your customer exactly that. Would it be wrong for you to put that in writting? Would Ford frown upon it if that letter was used in a case to prove that the value of the vehicle has severly suffered and is now worth nothing? If it were you in that situation, would you give your customer something in writting?

Weekend?

January 1999: Fresh off the truck I had a Dark Green 1999 Mustang GT for a weekend. They could not get payoff on my car for some reason, so they told me to keep there are, and come back after work Monday. They kept my car, and a copy of my insurance & license. I wanted it, but when I brought it back on Monday and wouldn't buy it because they couldn't do any better than $575.00/month (Lease). I refused to pay that much for a $25,000 car, when I was driving a Maxima SE that was $27,000 and I was only paying $372.89 a month for it (Leasing). I didn't have to pay for the mileage I put on it, or anything. We shook hands, and that was that. Two months later I bought a 1999 F-150 Supercab Flareside, and I drove it for a week before I finalized the papers.
-----------------------
2000: I decided to upgrade from the 1999 SuperCab to an Expedition. We'd been haggling over the phone for days, and they finally got to within $40.00/month of where I wanted to be. The catch was, they wanted my rims too- I didn't want to give them up. Long story short, I took my rims off, brought them the truck, but it was 1-hour before I had to be at work. They told me to come back Friday and finish up the paperwork. (It was Tuesday). I parked my truck. I got the Expy key, they took the F-150 key, and I went home. I came back Friday, finalized the paperwork. I asked if they noticed the rims were gone. They said yes... I said cool. We shook hands, I went and had my rims put on the new Expy, and called it a deal. (0.9% APR)
----------------
2003: Wife wanted to upgrade to the Expy with the powerfold seats, and smoother ride. Went up there Monday; made the deal- we couldn't agree on payments or APR. I said, OK, well I don't NEED this truck, I just wanted it. And when I got up, he said wait a minute. Take my truck, and let me make some calls. Come back Friday and we'll close the deal. I said cool. Friday, the Finance MGR's were in a meeting, they gave me $20.00 for showing up, and asked me to come back Saturday, I said cool. Went back Saturday. I was in there maybe 10 minutes; I got the payment I wanted, and 0.0% APR.

So yes; they can give you a car for a weekend.

Best case, it'll be free. Worse case, they charge you so many cents per mile, should you choose not to purchase the vehicle after your test drive...

You don't need kbb, 02SuperCrew4X here is a sales manager.

02, what can I get trade-in on a 1996 Windstar, 140K, rust, ABS Light, Engine Light and overall poor maintenance?

(Oh yeah and I'm standing there with my A-Plan)

Honestly..yes. When I bought my 99 F150, I took it around the block and back to the dealership. While talking to the saleswoman she asked if I wanted to move forward and buy it. I told her, that a quick drive around the block wasn't enough for me to make a decision at this time. So she was like, well do you need more time to test drine it? So, I said, look another drive around the block isn't gonna do it. She said, no, take it for a few days and then come back. So I took it that Sunday afternoon and took it back on wednesday. Needless to say, I bought it.

I really dont suggest it, unless you are deff. ready to buy. A quick ride down the street and back doesnt make it too bad to get back into your old car. But after 3 days of driving a new vehicle, you will never want to see your old car again.. Thats what happened to me

But I wanted the truck and loved it, so it was all good.

That happened here in Jersey. I also knew a dealer in North Dakota that would do the same thing.

You might as well go fishing because by the looks of it you sure aren't doing any work!!

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if you didn't buy the truck. Look, color and options is what sells me. Every new vehicle rides nice, is quiet and comfortable. You don't need to take it on a test drive to see if you like the stereo system or the heating/ac system. I've only taken test drives when I was ready to buy and bought everyone I test drove. The most miles I ever put on a test drive was under 10. I bought my F150 because I was ready for a new truck and Chevy really hadn't had a style change. So I didn't want to buy a Chevy with the possibility of it looking old after a year or two. A couple of guys I work with bought 1996 F150s and were disappointed with theirs when the 97's came out. Theirs looked old before their time.

$500 at MOST. That's about it. I'd be lucky to get that at the auction.

Yeah, the 97 - 2003 F-150's totally out classed the previous (and current)Generation F-150. But, the previous Gen's F-150 Extended cab flareside truck, with the conversion package was super nice...

Underpowered, but still nice...

It was mid/late 1996 when I almost bought one (Older Gen F-150), but my wife reminded me of something I'd said before. "It's silly to buy the old model when the new model is sitting right beside it."

The Ford dealership in Killeen, TX had them marked down to $20,000 (When Chevy Conversions were $30K - $36K), but it was the Chevy I really wanted (Back then). Realizing I was "settling" I didn't buy either truck; although I liked the 1997, I didn't like the high butt on them... It was the Chevy Flareside, With the "Mariah" or "Texas Stagecoach" conversion that I wanted. (I was in my last months of being Pro-GM / Japan-Resistant).

Now, I wish I had bought that Old Ford. It looks better to me now, then it did 10 years ago. One of the guys at work has one; and it still looks good... It only has 15" rims, but, it still looks good...

I think trading it might be the best thing to do? I think?

If we sell it ourselfs, it might sit for a long time and continue to get in worse and worse shape. Who wants to buy a 10 year old van with 140K on it that needs work? If we trade it then we can get rid of it fast and easy.

Since she wanted $1,000 - $1,500, I'd start off at $1,250.
I'd let it go for as little as $800 but, you never know....
Anything less than that and you might as well have traded it.

$800 cash is still better than a $500 line item on a contract.

Good Luck with all that.
