OSs on workstations are OEM

OSs on servers and all other software is purchased throught enterprise licenses

Jamz.....I have just been busy as hell lately.....my boss resigned back around thanksgiving so I am still doing all of my previous responsibilities as well as take on most all of his.....so I have been pretty stressed lately..... I am still looking to hire a tech to help me out on some of the more minor day-to-day things....but have not had any good canidates yet......

now, back to my original thread.......

.....the reason that I am asking you IT boys this question is because I would like to purchase Microsoft Project Pro 2003.......it retails at just under $1000 but I have found some OEM versions of this for $250.......and then the Pro version will work with the server version of the software so that I can collaborate and share the projects with the other workstations.......this usually retails for a few grand.....the OEM version is $550.......

........so, I am wondering what, if anything, should I beware of with OEM versions (aside from making damn sure it is not pirated)........

I'll check with my MS rep if you'd like....

There are different limitations on OEM software but most entail the software being loaded from the manufacturer and only licensed for that specific machine.

You wouldnt be legally allowed to move it from one to another but like I said I'll check with my MS rep if you'd like

I won't use an OEM OS.

M$ OEM licensing in a nut shell.
"Here it is, use it on this one machine, if you have to reinstall it on that machine at any time, then we will be frowning. If you buy a different machine and throw that machine away. Then you need to buy another CD to install on the new machine and throw the other CD away with the old machine too.

I just got an email from the rep.

Doesnt appear there is a legal way to install an OEM copy on a pre-existing system.

The price I got for the Pro version was 862 for the pro.

email me if you want me to get you in contact with this person
