Just last week, in a very "safe" neighborhood in Montgomeryville, PA (3 miles from where I live) a man was robbed and murdered in his home during a home invasion. Linky. I'd rather carry every day for all my life, and possibly never need it, knowing that if something like this does happen, my family and I would at least have a fighting chance.

Do you wear a seat belt when you drive? You own and operate a safe vehicle so you should have no need for extraneous mechanical safeties, right?

The problem most people have with guns, conceal or otherwise, is a complete lack of understanding and knowledge. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to change their minds. Unfortunately, that is the thinking in many of our "elected" officials, and they have the power to change things. They, for the most part, have been brought up in a "safe" neighborhood, with a silver spoon in their mouth, and never had to worry about anything. The "fortress" they live in is well guarded, or under complette surveillance, so they see no need to carry a gun for protection, and they never will, unless they are faced with the same day to day challenges that the rest of the "real" world lives with!
The 2nd Amendment gave us the right to bear arms. That doesn't mean that they have to, but, they can if they choose. If they don't like it, they can always move to a different part of the world, no loss here if they did.

^ Hey I am not against guns but just curious as to why so many feel the need to carry them is all.

I beeped the horn at some guy at a traffic light once only to have him get out and flash his gun at me over beeping the horn.

He probaly wasn't licensed to carry one. He is the type of idiot that gives us licensed people a bad name. All I am saying is that, that idiot brandishes his gun over a horn blowing, he is a frigging idiot. Too bad he didn't get caught doing it. I keep a gun in my truck and at my house for me and my family's protection. I don't want to feel like I couldn't do something to protect my family if God forbid someone was trying something.

Simple answer here for me is id rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. I am licensed and I carry everywhere (legal)

As for the guy flashing his gun, he is the type that give the law abiding, licensed guys a bad name.

Waiting for my permit. Indiana went from about 4 week lead time this summer to a 18-20 week lead time this winter. At least I only have to wait once, getting a lifetime.

"Safe neighborhood"

I was LOL'n with the same feeling about living in a safe neighborhood until my F-150 was stolen just 2 weeks ago whilst parked less than 50 feet from my home. Gated, lit, cameras, and foot/car patrol by a private firm and local PD didn't stop a few punks from coming into my neighborhood and taking all the electronics they wanted without setting off a single alarm, and using my truck bed to haul it off in. I didn't have a weapon in the truck or in my house at the time, but all of that is about to change since "it happened to me".

The only comforting news really is that my truck was recovered 2.7 miles from my home only 6 days and 1200 miles on the odometer later. Oh, and the damage was about $4k...thank goodness for insurance.
