Good point. I believe before people just start randomly moving back in, they should sufficiently fortify the levees first. Doesn't make much sense to me to do it any other way.

 

Gotta' jump on that one. It's not the State of Louisisana that's so screwed up. It's the state of the government in Louisiana that's screwed up. I grew up in Baton Rouge. Nobody there likes what the state has become. How can you fight the ignorance of masses when they outnumber you? It's the old saying "The squeakiest wheel gets the most grease." When people are used to having things handed to them, it's akin to withdrawal symptoms when it's taken away. There's a chance that New Orleans can be built back into a beautiful city, one where I wouldn't be afraid to take my wife and kids in. Used to if you were in the wrong neighborhood, you'd be in a world of hurt just for that. I don't think that Nagin is capable of making that city into what it could be.
As far as the idiotic statement "God is punishing them cause they were stupid enough to live below sealevel on the coast, seriously, who does that!" No offense to you, CrAz3D, but come on. If that's the case, let's remove population from SoCal, because a earthquake might hit. Let's remove people from the middle plains because a tornado might strike. Let's evacuate Florida, look what a hurricane bullseye it is. Let's evacuate the North, because it snows there, and people could die. Once in two hundred years, disaster strikes. What about 9/11? Was it there fault for building the towers so tall that it was an easy target for the planes?
Would people talk about N.O. different if a terrorist planted a bomb on the levees instead of a natural disaster striking? I'm one of the most critical people when it comes to how that whole situation was evolved. Everything in the system failed at one point or another. People failed themselves. I can understand hard feelings when you put money in a disaster recovery effort only to see it abused. I am enraged about it. But it would have happened in any major city in the US. N.O. had no worse crime rate than anywhere else. There are low lifes everywhere that would loot and steal in a heartbeat. Look at the riots in Los Angeles...A jury doesn't find in your view, so you torch and loot and steal? The majority of Louisianans are honest, hard working people, but the corruptoin in the government goes back 100 years. Until that's fixed, it'll always be a backwards state, and the reason I'll never go back after the service.

 

The biggest problem is that the majority of racists in this country are BLACK! But only the WHITE racists get called out on it, the BLACK RACISTS can say whatever they want without any fear of reprisal.

And if my lack of tolerance for black racists makes me a racist, then fine. I don't like white racists either (gotta throw that in so someone doesn't come hunting for my scalp).

He's amazing, not only does he insult his own people, he puts thier lives in jepordy. Any action before the levees are rebuilt is putting those people at risk. It's been said that within a century, the walls will need to be 100 feet tall to keep out the sea. You would think he would "appeal" to the masses instead of insulting them. Since this waste of money will be financed by the taxpayers, he should appeal to the largest tax base in the US, White Chocolate.

All people regardless of color should find Nagin's comments disturbing. In hindsight I think he's just trying to recruit voters so he can keep his job.

 

I agree. Instead of heading into arguments ignorant, I like to hear both sides. That way I understand the issue, and have more of a chance of getting people to see my side of it.

Yes, I think Nagin is an idiot, and I agree with a lot of what you said about the state of Louisians's government, and people. I too grew up in Louisiana, and as bad as things were then, government wise; it's worse now...

Hell, I think they oughtta bring Edwin Edwards back. All he was doing is gambling his own money. I can live with that; no skin off my nose. But, since his political demise, it's gotten worse and worse. Idiots down there almost elected a farking Klansman as the governor? Is that sending a message or what?
