louie is looking about his vast stock of fe stuff
but one thing in mind..
if you want to change a 360 into a 390 a crankshaft change alone will not do the trick...
you need to change the pistons also..the wrist pin location is in diffrent..you will need 390 pistons...
one other thing SOME 360's and 390's do NOT share the same cylinder bores
but he does have a stroked (.060) 360 crank for cheap...
you can build a real buzzz-box fe with this one
...zap!

Zap,
Thanks for the info. I think what will probably end up happening is they are going to go with a reman crank from either napa or advance. They have a good friend that can get them a good deal on a reman 390 crank. I guess if they send it to the machine shop and it all checks out that is about as good as anything else they would find. It's not going on the drag strip. Just want it to pound a little pavement and some mud from time to time. Let me know if louie comes up with anything that would be very helpful. From what I understand they also need the harmonic balance and flywheel from the 390 to finish off the rotating assembly. The question I had and is that even if the whole thing balances different from one to the other (390 to 360 etc.) couldn't the whole rotating assembly be balanced with any flywheel and balancer combo? I don't understand why the after market has like totaly orphaned the big block ford stuff. It's even somewhat difficult to find aftermarket parts for the 460's and they are about as common as anything. At one point I had considered redoing an older ford truck myself but man, the trouble these guys are going through to find parts is really showing me that I don't want to do that. You can buy almost every nut and bolt for the chevy's in the aftermarket. I just don't get it.
Anyway I appreciate the info and the help.
Thanks,
WV

Calling Zapster!!
Zap, Do you know off hand where the number is stamped on a FE crank? My brother is standing in the middle of a field where they just tore the bottom end off an old ford v8 and they are looking for the casting numbers. Any casting number locations would be helpful. They have the number just need to know where to look for it.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
W.V.
the casting part # is usually on the leading edge of one of the counterweights
(inside the block)...
the #-letter for a 390 is ...2U....2T is a 360 crank
if you want louies # send me a e-m

I've got a 390 crank for sale- Course it comes wrapped in an engine, and the engine's sittin inside a 1966 f-350 dually dump that is slowly being reclaimed by Mother Earth in my back lot (It was a replacement engine from the 80's). It does have some of the hard to get 6 lug split "ring" wheels that ya just dont find any more...
Zap,
They found a crank and block at a different place but still need to get it checked so I may drop you a line if it doesn't check out okay. Thank Louie for checking his reserve stock.
THanks a bunch!
