Internet Explorer help please

When I double click on the IE icon on my desktop, it takes like 15 seconds to actually open. And, whenever I open up a new window in IE or click on a link that opens a new window, it takes just as long to open up, and the window I was originally in freezes up until the next one opens. Anybody know why it takes so long or what I can do? It has never done this before, just noticed it yesterday. Im running XP Pro and have already done a Norton Anti Virus scan with Norton Internet Security and I have done a Spy Sweeper sweep. Yet my DSL speed has not been affected. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If in doubt; reboot.

Is it just IE that opens slow or is it other programs? Just when you first open it up or every webpage you go to once it is open?

How long you had internet security?

I just put it on mine, and it really seems to have slowed things up.

I can't even get to some of the forums I frequent without turning it off.

Does it make a difference if you are not running the program?

I am just throwing this out, as I am a Dumb A when it comes to this puter thingy.

Does that mean even after you have IE open it takes a long time to go from page to page?
If that is the case could it also be just slow internet, or security software like others have mentioned, or sometimes even a router that causes it.
If its IE and other programs as well that open slow then it's definately something on the comptuter.

Norton is nobody's friend. It running fine for months means nothing.

Is Norton back enabled then?
You could always use a different anti spyware program

Sounds like Norton wasn't the problem. So therefore he should definitely listen to everyone telling him to dump Norton even though it wasn't the problem and perhaps go with one of those freebie spyware programs...

You know, like maybe Spy Sweeper, the one causing the problems?

Simplest and best solution:
Get FireFox.
It's an alternative browser to IE, and offers more security, more features, more updates, more everything. You can get addons for it such as AdBlock or FasterFox, which will load firefox partially into memory when your computer boots, meaning it always opens fast when you want it to.

http://www.getfirefox.com

But I can also explain why Spysweeper was causing your problems

Spysweeper has built in "shields" for your "protection".
One such shield.. actually several of them.. monitor IE. They watch for spyware coming in and anything trying to hijack the IExplore process. It also performs a check on IE startup to make sure it's clean. This takes a while and generally just gets in the way.
Disable those shields and you will be fine!

Remember when you were a kid and the TV would act up?

A quick slap to the TV and it started working just fine again?

A quick slap works on my computer and my wife.

It's just like a little kid. A couple good hard kicks and everything does what it's supposed to.

Thanks guys for all the help!! I do have Norton back up running again and Spy Sweeper is shut down. Everything is fine again. But I've had Spy Sweeper on the computer since September with no problems. Why all of a sudden though? I havent changed any setting or anything. Thanks again.

Use Microsoft's anti-spyware program. That's the only one I trust against spyware.

Just my opinion, and what I use at work..
