DLP/LCD or Plasma (Decisions-Decisions)
DLP/LCD or Plasma (Decisions-Decisions)
My best friend
bought, and had professionally installed, a 50" LG PLASMA (Just when you thought the SAmsung 50" Plasma was the hottest TV on the market) TV. I must admit, it's very nice. And, with the 25,000 hour gas-tube life expectency, they aren't nearly as fragile as they used to be, in terms of daily usage.
I saw two at Best Buy; one had a built in DVR and was $4,500.00 the one with no DVR was 3,799.99. But, I saw an off-brand 50" LCD-DLP that had a great picture too; but it was only @1,799.00- I'm feelin that price; but my question is; which is better? I think the DLP was 1080i they said they best you can get is 1080P (I may have the p and the I confused) but, I don't give a crap about all that technical mumbo-jumbo.
I'm just wondering which one you guys think is the best, considerign day-to-day useage, durability, picture quality, and cost being an object.

For the $1799, I would get the DLP. Its gonna give you a great picture.
When you say he got a projection tv, do you mean a rear projection TV or a ceiling mounted projector? If it were me, i would get the DLP first, but if its an HD Projector, I would do that.

You guys are hilarious... Send your wives over, if you really think I'm gay.
All we're gonna do is watch TV, I promise...

Really-though, I said projection (mistake), but I meant Plasma. 50" LG Plasma TV.
You can't wall mount a Projection TV (Not one like mine anyway)... Not unless you live next door to Jeff Foxworthy...

Just a little info on what I know from first hand experience. My "friend"
has a 42" plasma which is a real nice looking tv. However, the picture on it is not all that good when you watch cable, actually its pretty crappy if you ask me. But put a DVD in and its a whole 'nother world. It has a real nice clear picture with great color. As far as "screen burn" is considered...yes it does happen. I'm not sure how long it takes under normal conditions, but I see it all the time in the boats I work on when these guys leave it on the wqeather channel all day long. What happens is that the stupid channel logo never moves from the corner, therefore burning it perminantly into the screen. AS far as I know, there is no way to fix it. And what really sucks, is that you can even see it whn the TV is turned off.
I have a 50" Toshiba rear projection and I love it, has a good picture with my Direct tv and DVD's are awesome on it. If I were to do it again, I would stay away from Plasma and I would get a DLP hands down. But if I wanted to rearange my family room and loose the cozy feel in there, I would get an HD projector and mount that bda boy in the ceiling on a drop down platform, so I could hide it in the ceiling when im not using it. My only question at that point would be wether to get a screen or paint the wall with screen paint???
Not sure if any of that helps man, but thats my story.

I got me a Sony Wega in July, 60" LCD. its a good TV. i asked about TVs on this site and got just about everyones opinion on one, and they were all different. i found some in my price range and then did a little research on them. At circuit city you can read the customer's review so i used them to help make my decision.
