Im only 19 and dont want to pay for any freakin tickets
Its not about speeding, Its about letting the faster traffic go by.

If there is no one infront of you, no one on the right of you, and cars lined up behind you, Then you need to get out of the way.

************************************************** ********

In all fairness though, Ohio is fugged up just like IL and MI.

They make Semi-trucks go 55 mph on the interstate. Since they go so slow, They are only allowed in the 2 right lanes on 3 laned roads.

North Ridgeville, Ohio is basically Cleveland. So hes probably running the left hand lane in that mess.

Traffic is a joke.

He still should move over and let faster traffic go by, But theres half a million people up there just like him. Im sure he learned by example.

JT, all I got to say is that you need to learn how to use your mirrors. If your story about your father is true, then you have had a horrible example from which to learn. Driving requires knowing what's going on around you, ALL the way around you, 360 degrees around you. This requires use of your mirrors ALL the time. You should be checking your mirrors at least 1-2X per minute while in traffic. ALL the time. you need to know where ALL the vehicles around you are located, ALL the time. When YOU become an obstacle to traffic flow, then YOU are the problem. Hazards can approach from behind as well as from ahead, so driving slow won't protect you.

I'm sorry there are drivers like you on the road, and I'm even more sorry that drivers like you have no clue what you're doing wrong.

Yeah I know, thats just common sense. I definately do that. I do look at all my mirrors a lot, way more than 2 times a minute, technically every so many seconds you're supposed to. I take back the left lane thing, it just depends on the direction I will be turning so I dont cut anyone off at the last second to get in the correct lane. If im not the only one on the road, I just do what everyone else is doing. The only time I ever "hold up traffic" is on a two lane road with people behind me while still going over the speed limit with no one in front of me. Yeah everyone in the family know my dad is a "pokey" driver, at least I never do under the speed limit. Sorry, I know I still have a lot to learn. :o

Here in Ohio, the law states that you must honk your horn when passing somebody. Weird.
Just a heads up.
I got bumped a few years ago by a tailgater from down shifting from 5th to 3rd while doing 70 in a 60. I did this after he refused to pass when he had numerous chances numerous times and I even slowed down to the speed limit to let him pass when it was clear. After he bumped me I pulled over expecting him to too so we could exchange words. But he didn't he drove on. I chased him down and got his plates, then went back to town and notified the state police of the incident. (leaving out the part where I down shifted of course) Instead a deer ran out, I had to tap my brakes to keep from hitting it then he rear ended me.
Before they even started the report we went out to look at the damage.
It barely put a scratch in my bumper, not a big deal... just the princable of the fact.

But this is what they told me,
"Even if it was a brand new vehicle that did not have any scratches, they could not prove that he did it. All vehicles have a 5mph bumper but will often take more. So they could not match up that scratch (even on brand new clean bumper) with his vehicle that probably does not even have a scratch. So they could not even issue a ticket to him for following to close unless an officer witnessed it. Other wise he could sue them and win becasue they have no evidence that he was even on that road other than my testimony so there would be a shadow of a doubt to a jury. All he would have to do is have somebody say he was somewhere else. Then... If I persued it personally then he could sue me on several accounts as well and would probably win several thousand dollars becasue it would be my word against his again so there would be a shadow of a doubt."

Retrospect it makes since, other wise anyone going down the road could write down your plate and claim that you bumped them putting a scratch on thier bumper. Or even someone who doesn't like you and may not have ever been on the same road as you could accuse you to make you pay too. So I guess it's as fair as it can be, it just backfires occasionally and is known as the 5mph rule.
The result is if you are doing the posted speed limit of say 70 mph someone can come up behind you at 75 mph, bump you, and get away with it! Unless a police officer sees it, you get it on tape some how, or maybe if you get several other non related non passenger commuters to pull over and willing to testify for you. (Not likely to get anyone not involved to pull over or testify, but even if you did it's not a real strong defense for you but might keep a jury from granting him any awards. But not strong enough to charge him with anything.)

As far as passing I think here you are suppose to flash your passing lights twice and honk. Nobody ever does, but if memory serves me that is how the test book reads.

In Ill. it's not just semi's, it's any vehicle pulling a trailer is restricted to 55 mph on I64 interstate.
Next to Kansas and Iowa, Ill is the 3rd most boring state to drive thru that I've been to. So I want to get thru there as fast as posiable!

Get rid of your toll roads and your split speed limits, then I will be impressed.

No I try not to think, ussually safer for me and everyone else that way.

But, I dont watch the news either. To depressing over things I have no contol over. I think we've had this discusion before. It's ussually easy to spot the news watchers, they are not as happy. I dont understand the ones that start thier day every day with the depressing news either. But I definatly wont go to bed after watching it. Not what I want on my mind before/while sleeping!

I'm sorry you don't think, that's so sad

I agree that the news is a drag, I hate all the ugly/unhappy stuff they are always reporting. I saw an ad once for a web site that only posts happy news stories but I can't remember the name of the site. I'd like to find it, there isn't enough heartwarming stories on the evening news these days.

couple months back here in Alberta fine's doubled 2x when passing police, fire, ambulance at accident speeds...mim speed is 60 km ( highway ) if your in the right lane and emerg Veh. are parked on the shoulder, also fines appy in constrction area's, regaurdless if road crews are working, or not, this bugs me, often signs are up, and no one is working, on ocassion I have seen the cops at 230 in the morning doing speed checks in constrction zones when no one is wworking......

Don't speed at night when your the only car on the road...speed in the day time like every one else, highway, not side streets.
