How can I wipe out my hard drive and start over installing windows XP? I'm getting error messages left right and center, I tried to install it over the one that is in my hard drive, thier booth the same copy, set up kept trying to install threw dos and not windows...
I have lost my graphic display for the vid card, I can't find the driver, display is set at 32bit, display sucks, and I tried to find the setting for 256 color by clicking on start/properties and that setting is not thier, I'm not sure if my monitor is working...correctly
I download a virus protection software program that I can't get rid off, I used the deinstall program, and delated the program from the C: drive, and it's still thier and will not allow me to go on line to download a driver for the vid card...
Thanks and I wish ya all the best in 06... old 386 rocks, but slow..but the good coumputer is ready for a flight...

I've done it many times, I just pop in the XP cd and click on "Install Windows XP Pro" and I think the computer takes it from there. If that doesnt work, I do remember having to change the bios by hitting F2 or F3 many times when you turn computer back on to bring up a menu so to speak. In other words you change from booting from hard drive to boot from the cd instead. You actually have to change the order from top to bottom by hitting the + and - keys. Then restart computer. I cant remember if it asks you if you want to delete other installed copies of it, but whatever it says, I say yes. Im not even sure if im using the correct terms, its been awhile. I'll check back in here while im deep frying my wings.
Sorry if this doesnt help. :o

In order to do what you requested......
"How can I wipe out my hard drive and start over installing windows XP"
.......you have to do it in DOS.
You can't wipe out the drive, if it's currently running Windows. Doh!
That would be like cutting off the branch you're standing on.
Boot off the CD, and run the Windows installation program. It will find the current version installed, and ask you if you want to repair it, or do a clean install.
The clean install is the best route, but you will lose anything not backed up onto another drive or CD's/floppies.
Good Luck.

Sorry I like to help people, but on a 9 month old computer your better off to call thier tech support anyway.
I don't know of a virus that can travel thru remote decktop, but that doesnt mean it's safe for the client computer (mine) if there is a virus on yours (the host computer). It would open the door and expose the client (mine) volnerable to attack.
