It's crazy... I thought I'd get to experience some cold.... Not gonna happen this trip...
PS- there are some fine-*** Puerto Rican hotties up here...
And Lord Ham-Mercy, in NYC... Nothing but tight jeans, knee boots, and plump rumps...
Heaven...
OK, I'm back in Big D, and let me tell you; it doesn't seem that crowded here anymore- now that I've been up there...
I haven't seen so many people shoehorned into one area since I left Seoul, Korea. Find the largest ant bed you can imagine, put model buildings in it, and stir it up, and that's what New York seems like... Goo-gobs of people...
I didn't make it to D.C. "officially" but I did stop in DC on the way back to Dallas. I at least saw the Washington Monument and the Senate Building as we approached and later departed Reagan International.
It's true, you can't pump your own gas in Jersey. I thought that was weird at first, but afterwards, I kinda liked it. I liked WaWa's. Where else can you get a hand made sandwich, on freshly baked bread at 3:09 AM?
Wierdness defined: You can't make left turns in the Freehold/Howell, NJ area on major roads (Like Highway 9). They have right-handed U-Turn spots so you can exit from the right, make a C-turn, and enter the intersection from the right to either complete a left turn, or, go back in the direction you came... I've never seen anything like that in the USA, or, anywhere for that matter.
Sadly, as much as I saw, I have been told that I really didn't see anything...
I'll get the pics up as soon as I can- I have a new digital camera with 16MB of internal memory- I could only take 22 pics per trip (Never made it back to BBY or CC) to get a 256 MB card for it...
Being a country boy from La., who now calls D/FW home, I can fully understand why KC-10FE doesn't like the area. I too can attest, it's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there. (Unless I could afford to live in Manhattan, and was single..)
~My God, the women~...
Speaking of which, I met two SERIOUS hotties from Australia on the boat ride back from Liberty Island. They were absolutely gorgeous, and my 20-month old son had their full & undivided attention for the 15 minute ferry ride, and the 30 minute bus ride from Battery Park back to the starting point. I wish I could've gotten pics of them, but the wife may have gotten suspicious of my intent.
Those voluptuous bodies, and cute faces, coupled with those bedroom eyes (They were both nursing students- incidently) and the accent, made me wan to....
Well, I'd better not- after all, I don't want to lose my Disney Channel subscription (Membership).
...She knows me so well.

Hey Hersh.....From what you mentioned, you didn't see much of New Jersey at all. I don't consider the WaWa, Circuit City or Target (to name a few) the hot spots of New Jersey. Seems like you were mainly interested in New York City, which is night and day from New Jersey. New Jersey has some very beautiful areas, such as the beaches, mountains (well small compared to some areas) horse farms, etc.. Oh well, next time maybe you'll get to see some of those.
Anyway, Happy New Year!!!!

1. You have the $$$$ to live on/near the shore. I sure as hell would like it if I had $750000 (the going rate) to buy a 1500sq/ft house on LBI.
2. Mind-numbing traffic & the idiots in the cars doesn't bother you. RT 9 is TERRIBLE at all hours of the day. My house is only 34 miles from the Freehold Honda/Ducati/Triumph on RT 9 & it takes me over an hour to get there due to the traffic.
3. You're only there long enough to let your house appreciate so you can sell it and buy another & so on & so forth. Believe it or not, this is VERY common in NJ. One of the pilots I used to work with got out, got hired by FedEx out of Newark and buys a new house every 8-12 months. He's made over $900000 selling houses since he got out in 2002. He doesn't have to pay capitol gains tax since he always buys a new joint. He's saving to buy like 60 acres near Memphis, TN so he can transfer to the FedEx HQ.
4. You're an idiot liberal who doesn't mind having a government run by crooked mob wanna-be's running every facet of your life.
Don't get me started...

Charleston or Shaw AFB??? What do you do/AFSC???
My only concerns during this deployment:
1. Getting into the gym. I think my shoulder is as good as it's going to get so I need to start working out again.
2. Study for MSgt.
3. Getting AT LEAST 12 hours of sleep a day. Being aircrew, I know what my schedule will be for the duration of my deployment. My logic: If I'm asleep for 12 hours a day, I'm really only there for 1/2 the time. Does that make any sense to anyone other than myself?
4.5 Days to take off...

You're a flight engineer, loadmaster, or crew chief? and no, 12 hours of sleep is perfectly fine while in the desert. Remember, nothing is better than having to walk 200 yards in a sandstorm to take a **** or a shower, before work. Oh well... $3.50 a day RULES!!!!!!

I used to work for the 77th Fighter Squadron as an AGE Mechanic. I lived on a dirt road behind the Thomas Sumter Academy on old Rt 521. I really didn't like Shaw too much but I really like SC, especially the area north of Columbia going towards Charlotte.
Where do you guys deploy to? We go to Al Dhafra, UAE.

I'm in 20 CMS now and Shaw is still Shaw... We are supposed to be heading over but they've been typically mum about where they are sending us. Unfortunately, I'm not gonna be attached to a fighter squadron, soooo... who knows?
The Chicken Shack in Dalzell... Mmmmm...
Good stuff. I lived in Rembert, but close enough. Go out the back gate onto Peach Orchard Rd & Turn left at the school when you pass over new RT521. My road was 150yrds on the right.

Hey LT,
You're right- I didn't see much of NJ, but NJ wasn't my target for this trip, it was NYC. All we did in NJ was chill out, sleep and relax in preparation for our trips to NYC... Jersey is a trip.. I live in Texas, and not even here have a seen a sign that says "No Horses allowed on freeway". My friends house is not too far off of Highway 9... It's amazing that they have deer and turkey casually strolling through their yards. Fortunately though, no Black Bears.
We were supposed to do Washington DC, but we got up too late, and with a 3 hr. trip ahead which would leave only 1-2 hours of daylight, we decided to do Atlantic City that day, instead. SOB cop gave us a ticket that night for 82 in a 65... How he singled us out, in a line of cars on a packed highway- still amazes me.
This is some of what I saw- but, I still feel like I didn't see anything (With regard to NYC)... So, I also got to witness that NJ State Troopers are just as silly as Texas' DPS troopers. You guys have some kick-*** rest stops though. In the median of the road, complete with resturants, stores and everything. If you come to TX, you won't find anything like that. Just some toilets, and feces-smeared vending machines.
NOHO
SOHO
Manhattan
Brooklyn (Went to Junior’s and got cheesecake for us all. The one P. Diddy sent “Da Band” members to go get on MTV’s Making the Band 2. $62.95 for one cheesecake)
Chinatown
Battery Park
Empire State Building
Ground Zero (From a distance- Sept. 11, 2001)
Statue of Liberty
Ellis Island (I thought the statue was on Ellis Island, I stand corrected)
Trump Tower
Ed Sullivan Theater (You know I had to see where David Letterman’s show is filmed)
MTV Studio
Macy’s (The World’s largest store, 2,000,000 square feet- many Malls aren’t that large)
NYSE and the Bull out front
Staten Island
Central Park
Madison Square Garden
Brooklyn Bridge
Manhattan Bridge (Crossed)
Verrazano Bridge (Crossed)
Williamsburg Bridge (Crossed)

Well sounds like your guy might be in some trouble....
If you used pre-1997 rules for residential sales, don't worry. That doesn't disqualify you from claiming the exclusion on any residential sales now. The law change applies to all sales since it took effect.
Another bonus of the new rules: You don't have to buy another home with your sale proceeds. You can use the money to travel to Europe in style, buy an RV and drive across the country or get all those designer shoes you never could afford before.
Even better, there's no limit on the number of times you can use the home-sale exemption. In most cases, you can make tax-free profits of $250,000 (or $500,000 depending on your filing status) every time you sell a home.
Ah, but we are talking taxes here. You did notice that phrase "in most cases," didn't you? Before you put a "For Sale" sign in the yard, you need to make sure your house-sale situation is one of those "most cases."
First, the property you're selling must be your principal residence. That means you live in it. This tax break doesn't apply to a house or other property that you have solely for investment purposes. In those cases, the usual capital gains rules apply.
You can, however, turn a rental house into your primary residence, making the sale of it eligible for the exclusion. This is accomplished when you meet the IRS use and ownership tests: You own and live in the home for two out of the five years before the sale.
And your actual habitation of the home doesn't have to be sequential, notes Mark Luscombe, lawyer, accountant and principal tax analyst at CCH Inc., a Riverwoods, Ill.-based provider of tax law information and software. The IRS lets you aggregate your time living in the house to meet the two-year residency requirement.
"Generally, if you owned and used the home as your main home for periods totaling at least two years within five years ending on the date of these sale, you're eligible for the exclusion," says RIA's Trinz. "You look back at the last five years. Ownership and use may be at two different times. This would apply if you owned a home for five years, but didn't use it as your primary residence for that full period. For the first three years, you rented it and then moved into it as your main home for the final two before you sold it."
But you don't even have to live in the house at the date of sale. The flexibility of the use test means you could live in your house for a year, rent it for two, move back in for another year and rent it again the year before you sell. Since during those five years you owned and lived in the property for two years, you meet the use and ownership tests.
Finally, while technically there's no limit on the number of homes you can sell and reap tax-free gain, each sale must be at least two years apart. That still leaves you room to make some money on several properties. You can sell your residence this year, pocket any gain within the tax limits and buy a new residence. Two years later, you can do the same thing, again and again every two years.
