Sigh... as much as hard core conservatism gets under my skin lately; this is a classic example of a double standard. Try and stop the left wing nut jobs from ranting and they scream "censorship" and call you a fascist. Someone from the other side of the spectrum wants to speak and these same types call it hate speech and don't want to allow them their first amendment rights... Hello pot this is kettle. As much as I also hate to feed into this, I do actually see a bias (in our sound byte short attention span world) here, notice the headline CNN tacked on this article. It makes Coulter sound really bad (that was my first impression before I read the article) but unless you read the whole article you don't even know the whole story. I'll be interested to see how Fox News presents this.

Ann Coulter to audience: You're stupider than I am

Ann Coulter after speaking at the University of Connecticut.
STORRS, Connecticut (AP) -- Conservative columnist Ann Coulter cut short a speech at the University of Connecticut amid boos and jeers, and decided to hold a question-and-answer session instead.
"I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am," Coulter told the crowd of 2,600 Wednesday.
Before cutting off her speech after about 15 minutes, Coulter called Bill Clinton an "executive buffoon" who won the presidency only because Ross Perot took 19 percent of the vote.
Coulter's appearance prompted protests from several student groups. About 100 people rallied outside the auditorium where she spoke, saying she spread a message of intolerance.
"We encourage diverse opinion at UConn, but this is blatant hate speech," said Eric Knudsen, a 19-year-old sophomore journalism and social welfare major who heads campus group Students Against Hate.
It wasn't the first time Coulter has had trouble at a university speech. In October 2004, two men ran onstage and threw custard pies as she was giving a speech at the University of Arizona.
UConn junior Kareem Mohni, 20, said he was disgusted by his peers' reaction to Coulter.
"It really appalled me that we're not able to come together as a group and listen to a different view in a respectful environment," Mohni said.

Has anybody ever noticed who it is that gets to decide where polical middle ground is in this country? That's right. The far left. It's amazing how many liberals (redefined as progressives) think they are Mainstream America's representatives. It depends on where you live as much as anything. Go to the Northeast and you are relieved to speak to just a run of the mill liberal; since, there are so many wackos there. Go to the bible belt and you are happy to find a 'conservative' that understands Conservatism.

Does anyone else see the Irony here? The dumbass-liberal-candy-asses were effectively 'not tolerating' Ms. Coulter.
It's funny the candy-asses who preach 'tolerance' never tolerate 'intolerance'.
Seriously, Parents...Spank your kids, hard and often, or they'll grow up to be candy-asses.

Then again, I suspect she might just be one of the leading intellects for the group she represents.

She said it that way on purpose. I am stupider than Einstein was. My Son is stupider than I am. Stupid is relative.

No need to blow opponents away, you only need to win the game by one run.
One run games keep the games coming.
You got to throw them a bone and stay controversial.
Sells books, gets primetime talkshow spots, guest speaker fees, etc...
She has a right to turn a profit.
Stir the pot, make some money.
She does alright for herself as a hate monger.
If the 'Far Left' she despises so much, didn't exist or just kept their mouth shut and let 'The Grand Olde Party' run things without complaint,
she'd starve to death.
I love how the Liberal press call someone a "columnist" or a "conservative columnist"
Ever see the Liberal press refer to a "liberal columnist"
Its like they are trying to discount her with the headline. So much for unbiased reporting.

anyone who doesn't agree with this does have their heads up their butts. The right of center vote was split. No secret there.

Do you even know how bad it is up here in the northeast? It's scary as he!!. I guess based on election results and poll numbers the "progressives" are the majority, but I talk to a lot of people around here that don't fit the mold. There are some conservative folks up here, we just aren't as "loud" as the, well you know.
We have got elections next year. I hope that the percieved majority here on these boards is representative of the way a majority of the country feels. If the "loudest" prevail, it will be very dissapointing. Not to mention very damaging.

I know there are lots of Conservatives in the N/E. I feel sorry for them. I can't imagine how frustrating it is for you guys up there.
Here's some interesting reading on Venzuela's Hugo Chavez. He's using a token offer of heating oil to the poor to influence US politics. Where you might ask, in the liberal strongholds of the Northeastern USA.
