I don't hunt, but I've always been a Remington 700 fan. I've got a Savage 10FP that'll shoot knots too.

I used a 7mm rem mag also, if looking for something today i would look to one of the short mags, or a 6.5/284 or a 25/284.

Remington .270 Winchester pump with 3x9-48mm Deer field scope, (Low end Red Field)! I miss that gun!
I shot hand loaded 140Gr ballastic hollow points. I don't reload but the guy that does it for me loads them a little hot and I loved them.

.270, 7mm, and .300 are the top selling medium to large game hunting guns in America. Why did you think you were alone?

Browning BAR Lightweight 30-06. I haven't hunted since I was a teenager; but, this gun was my favorite. I think Dad still has it.

Remington 700 in .300 WinMag, open sights for Nebraska hunting, where I am in the trees frequently...

Remington 7400 Semi-auto in 30/06 with Swift 12-40 variable scope and bipod for South Dakota plains, where shots are frequently 3-500 yards...

and let's not forget "old Faithful", my grandfather's 12 ga. Winchester 97 pump with a 28" barrel for Iowa and Wisconsin hunts, where rifle are frownd on and most hunters use a shotgun...

and then there's the Haydon .50 black powder, for muzzleloading season...
