Here's another Browning A-Bolt, 6 x 18 x 50mm Banner Scope.
What kind of shells do ya'll use? I've been using the Winchester Fail-Safe 130g shells. They seem to work well. Been wanting to try the Nossler Petition. Any better?

I would have to disagree. I've hunted here for quite some time and have yet to see someone on public land or anyone that i know use a shotgun for deer, i know some who have once or twice but either didn't like it, or just wanted to try it. Most people here use rifles for deer.

I use a marlin 336w 30-30, which i dropped a running deer with two shots (both were hits) in less than two seconds. Deer didn't run more than 5 yards between shots and dropped instantly on the second shot. I have a simmons 5 power national wild turkey federation scope on it. Really didn't need the scope for this deer but it is nice to have.

I also have a old military mauser 8mm model m48 that i used one year and didn't see anything. And i have an sks but i haven't used that much either. My dad uses a browning B.A.R. safari grade 30-06 with a big leupold scope and the boss system. Very nice gun.

I use winchester 170 grainers, but i also use remingtons and federals....anything like that, all in 170 grains though. Even with the 8mm i use 170, or 195 on a rare day.

An oddball:

Carl Gustaf Left Handed Bolt Sporter, 308Win and for the shotgun only areas, a Browning B2000 12ga with the slug tube.

Browning BLR lever action 30-06 with open sights- shot my first 9 deer with it.

now a Ruger M77 all weather ultra light bolt gun in 30-06 with 3-9-40 bushnell banner scope. shot 3 deer with it so far.

And plan to use my winchester 94 trapper in 44 mag in the brush next year.

Dan.

Well in new york state you have no choice but to use a shot gun for hunting deer, no rifles allowed in most of western nys. Here everyone uses a shotgun and a rifle is never seen. This year they (the DEC) opened up rilfe in a couple counties and mine was one of them. Now i use either the browing 7mm auto or my favorite is always the marlin .30 .30 lever action,.

I didn't think you could use an assualt rifle to hunt with???

If you can use them, an AR-15 might be replacing the Marlin 45-70 (with 405 grain) as my deer rifle.

Why is that an assault rifle??. A semi auto 12 gage shotgun will damage you more than that rifle any day and its not called an "ASSAULT RIFLE". Image is everything i guess.

I use a Winchester Classic Model 70 w/BOSS in a .300 win mag. Scope is a 3x10 Leupold Vari-X IV. Awsome rife and deadly accurate with the BOSS system.

Yes image is everything.
I have had people flip out over a 10/22 with folding stock, pistol grip, barrel shroud, 2-25 rnd bana clips, and muzzel brake.
It's a freaking .22 LR for crying out load. Turn the paranoia contol down about 98% please. If I wanted to kill someone I would use a cross bow anyway!

Ditto. Abolt 270 WSM w/BOSS. Although I've only ever shot 1 deer with it. Too good with the xbow I guess.

Do have to add, I've never seen a deer drop harder than when I hit one with a 12 ga. 1 oz. barnes expander slug through the heart many years ago. That was impressive.
