I use a marlin 336w 30-30, which i dropped a running deer with two shots (both were hits) in less than two seconds.
Deer didn't run more than 5 yards between shots and dropped instantly on the second shot. I have a simmons 5 power national wild turkey federation scope on it. Really didn't need the scope for this deer but it is nice to have.I also have a old military mauser 8mm model m48 that i used one year and didn't see anything. And i have an sks but i haven't used that much either. My dad uses a browning B.A.R. safari grade 30-06 with a big leupold scope and the boss system. Very nice gun.
I use winchester 170 grainers, but i also use remingtons and federals....anything like that, all in 170 grains though. Even with the 8mm i use 170, or 195 on a rare day.

Browning BLR lever action 30-06 with open sights- shot my first 9 deer with it.
now a Ruger M77 all weather ultra light bolt gun in 30-06 with 3-9-40 bushnell banner scope. shot 3 deer with it so far.
And plan to use my winchester 94 trapper in 44 mag in the brush next year.

Well in new york state you have no choice but to use a shot gun for hunting deer, no rifles allowed in most of western nys. Here everyone uses a shotgun and a rifle is never seen. This year they (the DEC) opened up rilfe in a couple counties and mine was one of them. Now i use either the browing 7mm auto or my favorite is always the marlin .30 .30 lever action,.

It's a freaking .22 LR for crying out load. Turn the paranoia contol down about 98% please. If I wanted to kill someone I would use a cross bow anyway!

Ditto. Abolt 270 WSM w/BOSS. Although I've only ever shot 1 deer with it. Too good with the xbow I guess.
Do have to add, I've never seen a deer drop harder than when I hit one with a 12 ga. 1 oz. barnes expander slug through the heart many years ago. That was impressive.
