One thing leads to another, and...
Well, the misses-to-be is outta state, and my buddy (the one who plans on buying the truck) came over to help me change wheel cylinders on the Brown Beauty. Well, it got late, and we got lazy, and well, it didn't get done. So, we went out and gazed at the old thing. Started talking about the parts we could get money from when he parted it out. and he mentioned that I should just go ahead and pull the trim, put it on ebay...
Well all the driver's side trim is off now. Going to clean it up, and put it on ebay one of these days along with what's good from the passengers side, and the tailgate. Going to probably scrap the tailgate for a net one. Tailgate's pretty ratty...
So, then we got to talking, and I said something about someday painting it all flat black just make it look a little nicer, and all the same color. Well, before I knew it I had the grinder out, getting rid of the trim rivets, then out came the orbital sander, the masking tape, and the cheap flat black paint. I now have a driver's side fender in black. Driver's door will be next, since the door panel is off to remove the old broken mirror. Just going to take my time, and do a little sanding, and paint it one panel at a time. No fancy body work... Probably no body work at all. We popped a few big dents in the door, but that was it...
Then I'm thinking some rattle can bedliner, the net tailgate, paint the wheels and rear bumper silver, and to top it all off I'll even change out the leaky wheel cylinders, add the power booster, and blead the brakes...
I was really hoping I wouldn't make a project out of this, and I really haven't, yet at the same time I have, but who cares we had fun, and that's what matters right??? help me here...
We also talked about putting his 460 ( It's got about 5k on a fresh build, but been sitting a while too. Would need to be freshened up some) in my 75. Since it's probably a little stronger than this tired 390. There's not definate on the 460, but it definately is an option...
So, I'm kinda torn. I want to sell the old thing to my buddy next summer, 'cause it's a lot of work to restore (and that was kinda the deal we made), and I need to get the Belvedere done, but yet I'm starting to get attached. We have another friend who's dad has a '78 short step, regular cab with a bad motor. Been sitting a few years. He says he won't sell it, but I'm thinking about maybe trying to get it from him when I sell this one. I kinda like the old stepsides, even though I kinda don't... The beds just don't flow too well, yet still don't look too bad, and I love the 78/79 grills!
Well, I'm rambling... that means I'm tired, and I need to go bed, so I'll shut up now...
b'bye...
