it finally happend :-( snow+me=crash

what a shame. I'm really depressed about this. I try to take care of my ride the best I can and keep up with the matinance so it's near perfact condition and ride. Until today that is.
Going my normal route every morning to the coffie shop on a cold snowy very icy morning. I normally don't have issues going out of control in the snow as I've been in snow as I've been driving in it every winter now for 24 years. Going down a road where the speed limit is 45mph, I was doing about that, maybe just a little under. A head of me a light was just turning Yellow to stop at a mayjor intersection. I applied my brakes to stop as I would at every light, and the nightmare began. I was sliding with no sign of slowing down on what became as Black ice. I see the other side of traffic starting to role out in front of me as there light turned green, I laid on my horn still trying to stop, and figures, this grandpa in a Mazda 3, did not see or hear me I guess and came right in the path as me. I turned my wheel to try to miss him, but I clipped the back drivers fender of the Mazda 3, which turned him sideways and slowed me down after running into a curb.
I was okay, the airbags did not go off. I hurried outside to check the guy in the Mazda to make sure he was okay, he was, he was shacken up a lot. At this point, I called EMS, told them there was an accident, they got there within 7 minutes. When the EMS came, the guy in the Mazda said he hit his head on his drivers piller or window when I hit him and was complaining at this point of a head pain, which they took him to the Hospital to make sure he is okay.
As far as me, I was okay, and was givin a ticket for failer to control, and caused an accident. The mountaineer is beat up in front. The bumper got pushed in and drivers side fender buckled a bit after hitting the Maza in the rear fender. It was towed to a Dealer since somethign broke on the suspention when I hit the crub. The mazda was also towed.
I did not have a camra on me to take pictures, but I will take pictures when I go to the dealer next to see about repairs.

So all in all, I'm wanting to know if the guy in the Mazda is okay after complaining he hit his head, so I'm hoping he is okay.

Bad day :'(

I agree, it's probably going to happen. What I can't seem to understand is why Gramps wants to see Tritoneer with his pants off???

Yes, you are right. It was my fault, thats why I got a ticket for it too, but if it comes down to him wanting to sue me for any head injuries he might have if any, then by all means u can do anythign he wants, after all, I hit him :-(

Special thanks to everyone here for the warm thoughts and Compassion

Well either way....it sucks when you reck a nice ride that you are proud of....but it sucks even more that 80% of America is sue happy....schitt happens...learn to live with it....I hope that he does not take you (your insurance) to the cleaners...and good thing to know you are not hurt....just think what kind of damage you would have done if you still had your F150.....

Glad you're ok. The weather here is pretty sucky today. It's been snowing all day and doesn't look like it's letting up any time soon.

This is going to sound bad, probably, but why were you driving near 45 mph on a snowy, icy road?

Not to be insensitive or a ***** or anything- BUT....

Given the above statements... Why were you going near 45 MPH on icy/snowy roads?

That's what gets me here in Dallas, 95% of these yahoos can't drive on bone-dry roads, and on the rare occasion that it snows, they still try to do the posted speed limit, with what amounts to zero snow/ice driving experience.

I normally don't wish bad luck on people- but I had an idiot in a 5.0 Mustang pass me on the Dallas North Tollway driving in "ice-ruts" (The equivalent of railroad tracks for a car- created by cars that have gone before him) at what had to be 80 - 100 MPH. If I'd gotten to Keller Springs, and saw his car bashed up against the toll booth like a squished soda can, I think I might have laughed...

After two years in Germany and one in Korea- I know a thing or two about driving on ice and snow, but I'm no expert... I have lost control of a vehicle on an icy mountain, going down hill. If that doesn't make your butt pucker, nothing will...

But, with black ice being as common as it is- it puzzles me that people still drive fast when conditions aren't ideal.

You're 40 years old? I had you pegged at about 17 or 18.

no SAJEFFC, your right, there is no dull moment in my life, which in fact I hate. I just wanna have a normal every day life, not all this crap I go through in general. Right now, Life just sucks for me. I have family problems, my father just passed away 2 weeks ago that I was very close too, I am in a process already of being sued from a company in the past, I got laid off from my job, g/f broke up with me last week, now todays crash. I try to keep my chin up and stay strong, but my lifes taking a big down fall quick and I'm probably be living in a box somewhere down the road if my life keeps going the way it is. I barly have enough money to pay for my gas each week trying to keep up with bills, and it's hard when I'm out of a job and trying to get another one. I just want to pull the sheets over my head and never wake up
