DVD Creation Software - MyDVD, Pinnacle, or others

I currently have an old version of MyDVD (v4) and an older verson of Pinnacle Studio (8.5). Pinnacle locks up and is generally crappy with regards to performance. MyDVD works great but due to its age doesnt have many features. I'm looking at buying a new package. I generally just burn DV tapes to DVD with little editing. Neither have gotten great reviews so I'd figure I'd see if anyone here has any experience with similar software.

Care to make a recommendation?

Thanks

Jim.

Very basic and easy to use is TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR $49.95

What I use now with great results, although a little harder to use, is DVD-lab PRO $199

Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6. It will do everything MYDVD did, plus allow HDTV editing and creation. It also has a sound editor (Sony Acid XMC). I have used copy software to create an MPEG file, then use the Sony software to edit the mpeg (or other format) to what I want, then burn a DVD with Sony DCD Studio (also part of the package).
The new Roxio Media Creator 8 will also do this. It now has MYDVD as part of the package. Some are having problems with it, mainly with video cards/drivers that are not current or powerful enough.
Overall, though, I prefer the Sony software for movie/DVD creation.

Stay away from Pinnacle....Far away. I bought the new studio plus version 10, as soon as I installed it had to upgrade to 10.1, then had to get a bunch of other patches and fixes for it,only to find out the program just wouldnt work. Couldnt get any help from Pinnacle and found out a ton of people are having the same problem. I finally gave up on it and purchased a different program. I bought pro show gold. Not sure if it will do anything for you, but its here www.photdex.com.

I'm gonna go look those up.

Brew, Pinnacle sounds great and I have version 8.5 but it locks on me, performs like crap, renders for 45 minutes and then says "failed". I was hoping that by version 10 it was fixed but it doesnt sound like it.

Well I'm gonna look up the others because I really would like a decent package. I dont do much editing per say....just mostly dumping home movies to DVD but I do like adding the chapters, menus, etc.

THanks for the recommendations. I hadn't heard of two of them....including the Sony version.

The Sony version is a cut down, by how much I don't know, of the software that is used professionally. I have had the last 3 versions and will say that none up to now have given me any problems. Something I can't say that about the Sonic/Roxio software. Nothing major just nitpicks mostly. Also Nero has software for their package, but had nothing but problems with that.

Vader..Pinnacle actually gives the web address in the owners manual to a chat forum thats supposed to have pinnacle customer service guys moitoring that will help you with any problems. So off I went and searched and found nothing but a bunch of guys pi$$sed off about version 10, complaining that they will not help them. One guy even talks about getting a lawyer involved. I fought for a while and like I said before, I pretty much gave up. Best Buy, however, did send me a $50 gift card under their "customer satisfaction" program since they do not refund for opened software. So with that and a $20 mail in rebate, I'm only out $30, but I still have the software, so if they ever fix it, I may be able to use it one of these days.
