Now THIS is some good parenting!
SOAP BOX.
I find it incredible some of the stuff I see that is considered parenting by people in my generation. Maybe it's not something new but I feel a lot of the problem with issues in America right now are from people in my generation. We are fortunate to have a pretty smart child. She did private christian school for pre-k and kindergarten. When she went to public at 1st grade we immediately had her moved to second grade just due to the level she was at. This may cause issues down the road but that’s another thread. Anyway, when I introduced my self to the teacher of her 2nd grade class she seemed stand offish, at first, I thought this to be odd. Come, to find out its because few parents actually talk to the teacher about their children, unless its a complaint. I pick my daughter up everyday, go home do homework/fix dinner then my wife comes home and we eat as a family. Well, we are both involved in my daughters’ life and talk at dinner. We had an issue arise that I had to talk to the teacher about. I met with her and just talked about how much my daughter reads at home and how much we encourage, not push education with her. The teacher was floored. She said maybe 2-3 kids in class actually do their homework and have a parent sign for it every night like we do. The same with manners she said, the same kids who get their homework done are the ones with manners.
I guess what I'm trying to say it doesn't take rocket science to be a parent, if you knew me you’d agree with that :0) But just spending time and reading with our daughter is the only thing I think that has made her different than the others. She also has a wit that’s quick, so I feel she will be just a normal kid down the road, that’s younger than most. The highlight of my day is talking to my daughter and spending time with my family, why is this so unique in today’s society?

tough one Serotta, but think of it this way... if Little Johnny is expelled, he's 100% guaranteed to commit larger crimes and become just like his mother.

ther other thing is that they are too busy trying to be a best friend instead of being a parent.

I'm late to this one.
I believe the mom deserves a medal, and the kid needs to attend that boot camp for juvenile delinquents.
That'll straighten her lil azz up.
Society is soo fooked up right now. "It's bad to spank your kids." This is coming from a woman who doesn't have any children, has a cat and lives alone. Who wrote that manuel? I mean common people...if the kid acts a fool, treat em like a fool.
Now, there is a thin line between a spanking and abuse (these days). If these people would have just seen the whoopin's I got as a kid they'd see what abuse is.
anyway...I gotta get back to work.....I'll pop in later and see whats up.
peace

I am curious where your children's mother is? I get the sense that your dislikeness to her sister and child means that you are mostly likely a single dad that the relationship ended badly. If she was anything like her sister I could see why. You sound like an excellent father that really cares about his children and they are so lucky to have you to help them. I wish my children had a father that they could look up to.
Wow!!! I hope I didn't make it sound like I do all the work myself. My wife is actually a stay at home mom and does most of the homework help herself. I just try to help out where I can when i get home from work. We both go to all the school meetings and events. We do double duty for the soccer stuff cause we have 3 of them doing that and all on different teams so we trade off so we both get to see all of them play.
As far as the smart assed comment goes. We usually let it go in hopes that the wifes sister will get the point and work with her kids. My wife tries to help her kids out from time to time but we have 5 kids of our own to worry about and that requires a lot of time each day just to get thier homework done.
We both had chilhoods where we didn't get much help with things and any sports were out of the question cause her parents were too busy, my dad worked all the time , and my mom was a drunk. We don't drink, my wife stays home and I try not to work my life away. By having kids we made a commitment and we intend to live up to it as best we can.
