While I am not stupid enough to believe that I'm going to get great gas mileage with a 5400lb truck, it would be nice if I could get what's on the window sticker. My 91 Chevy 350/5.7 consistantly exceeded it's EPA rating of 18mpg hi way. I routinely returned 19MPG quite easily. My 05 Lariat BARELY gets 18mpg, although it has topped 19 a few times. Under most conditons, I get 17.5mpg. The window stick says 15 city & 19 hi way. So while I'm not concerned with getting 30mpg in my truck, I would like to get what it's rated for. From what I can tell, most Ford vehicle don't reach or barely reach their rating whereas most Chevy's exceed their rating. My 92 Camaro was rated for 25 hi way and I normally got 28 or 29.

I think Chevy/GMC are about to shoot themselves in the foot. From what I've read thus far, the new full size truck will have a 5.3 rated at 320hp. That's nice, but the problem is it will STILL be backed by a 4 speed auto. Sorry, GM was the first full size truck (88 full size) with a 4 speed auto and the first company to put a 4 speed auto in a passenger car back in the early 80's. If after 20+ years they can't find the budget to throw an extra cog, well then this is one former GM aficianado that will keep on driving a Ford...

KC-10 FE out...

They don't have anything for my 5.4. Line me up with either the Nissan or Chevy and they will be "Dust in the wind"...

400hp / 470ft-lb at 14 - 17mpg (from the factory stock) is pretty damn good...

And not for long, either. When the new Tundra launches (less than a year from now) they will be available with a 380 HP 5.7L V8. Too bad Ford dropped the Hurricane - this new Tundra is gonna eat our lunch!

Hoping Ford will have something new or revamped to work with, Ford is going to lose a lot of it's fanbase if they fall behind. Please tell me where you are getting this information as well, I'd love to read up on it.

I've read about the cancellation or postponement of the Hurricane V8 on these boards, I believe. The other info I obtained from an acquaintance of mine who is rather knowledgable on the product.

Though it may be a mistake in the short term, I don't think Ford is all that interested in the horse power wars. The F150 is a utilitarian vehicle. It's got to be easier to produce if they only offer a few engine choices. I too would like to see Ford offer more power but I just don't see it happening. I think the link ViperGrendal posted tells us best the direction Ford is going.

GM, Dodge and who ever else will produce these real powerful V8's but is that really what the market is demanding? I think that it's great that GM wants to put this monster motor in the Caddy but how many are they really going to sell? Are they going to have to run that "employee discount for everyone" forever, or at least untill Toyota squashes them?

I don't know. It seems that Ford could be on the way out in that they don't seem to want to compete in the current market. Then again, maybe their stragidy will work with upcoming changes in the market.

So, will this Caddy beat up on the fast Ford offering that I drive?

Not if it maintains its current curb weight of 5820 lbs.

Caddy - 14.44 lbs per hp (5820/403)

Caddy killer L - 12.37 lbs per hp (4700/380)

And just think, it's currently almost twice the cost of the L...
