A warning for my Long Island brothers
Not long ago, a couple was killed when a street racer crashed into thier limo, killing both of them. They had just been married an hour before.
Since then, the authorites have been planning to crack down on street racing.
Two weeks ago, it was made public, that a new law was coming into effect this month. You get caught street racing, and you get arrested on the spot and you LOSE your vehicle. That is no joke, they take your car, and auction it off or use it themselves.
This is no joke. Yesterday, my brother was coming up to the shop in his crazy pro street Mustang. A guy in a supercharged, black fox Mustang, with slicks, aluminum wheels, and tinted windows pulled up next to him while he was driving. The guy started stabbing the gas and revving the motor and giving my brother "the look". My brother ignored him, and at the next light they were next to each other. The guys say to my brother, "what's the matter, don't you want to race?" My brother replies, "no way, there is a new racing law out, and I don't want to lose my car". The guy then smiles and pulls his badge on a chain from his shirt, holds it up, and says "good for you, you will be one of the few KEEPING their cars".
Now personally, I feel this is total BS. I feel that this is some type of entrapment, but according to fellow cops I know, they can do it and it's legal.
But my point is, DO NOT street race. It's not worth getting arrested and losing your car. This definitely sucks because since they closed our local track down last year, there are a lot of former racers with nowhere to go with their cars.

Wow!!!! That does sound like entrapment. But then again, the law has been using similar tactics to catch guys trying to solicit prostitutes for years.
I am afraid I would have gotten tagged on that one.

I am an officer and actually work narcotics and operations that involve my ability to understand entrapment... It would only be entrapment if the officer came up to a citizen and said, before the suspect said anything of the sort, "Let's go race"... Little insinuations have been ruled by the courts not to be entrapment... The prostitution analogy was perfect... When I do undercover prostitution stings, I can't mention any sexual act first... I have to say things like, "You looking for a good time" "What can I get for $40" yada yada yada, but NO mention of sexual acts until they mention it...
We know court decisions better than 99% of the people in the public and we usually know exactly how far we can push it, so just don't race, and if you do be carful and get home safe...

Thanks 35thPony. I never realized how big a deal street racing was, until I seen it on t.v. And after reading about, and hearing about some of the horible things that can result, I am a little more hard headed on the road, "let's go to the drag strip so I can embares you in ront of all your friends." will be my new response.
What bureaucratic BS. Another fine example of our politicians up to no good as usual. Street racing is nothing but excessive speed in my book. Unfortunate that it may be with someone getting killed. What about the people who drink and drive? They kill more people than street racing by far and there is no judgement call by the officer. I think the politicians and officers can concentrate there resources that commit worse than street racing. Don't get me wrong I don't agree with street racing but taking someones vehicle is overkill and unnecessary.

I use to street race on weekends down in Toms River - Manchester Area NJ. every weekend back in the Day till about 5 Years Ago. What happened was someone got killed Racing down there on Rt# 37 & things were never the same again. The Police made a Racing Task Force to patrol street racing & if you get caught they will give you a 8 point ticket on the spot. This is a mandatory lose of License for atleast 1 Year. I have recently also been told here in NJ. if you get caught racing they can take your car or truck.
When my son was born this stopped my street racing career.
On a side note because of the E.T.'s some of us Run I would Not recomend racing on the street because hitting a tree or Pole at 100 mph plus could be Fatal.

Dear Mr. Caruso,
Thank you for taking the time to contact our office to express your support for the sports and entertainment complex being proposed by the “Top Gun” group. In my State of the County address, I proposed the possibility of dividing County-owned land in Yaphank into three smaller parcels. One of the smaller parcels would then be potentially developed into a sports and entertainment complex for use by Suffolk County residents.
At this time, Thomas Isles, Director of the Suffolk County Department of Planning, is formulating a Site Evaluation Plan that will be utilized to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP). After the RFP has been issued, all interested parties may then submit their proposals for development and operation of the site. The County will then evaluate the responses. By Executive Order, the Department of Planning will issue the RFP for this site by December 31, 2005.
Although “Top Gun” has been very proactive in developing plans for this site, they have not submitted a formal proposal to the County and they cannot until after the RFP is issued. At that time, their proposal will be evaluated along with the other submissions.
I hope this information clarifies the situation for you. Please feel free to contact our office in the future if I may be of further assistance.
