I am not opposed to road trips....you are just down I-44....about 3hrs out....I used to take the I-44 to Route 5 on the way home until I decided to head through the wonderful town of Rolla instead....

 

Soon as you get your Missouri license let me know. I've got plenty of good hunting here.

 

What all do you have out there?....might consider a non-resident license...

 

Little bit of everything deer, turkey, quail, dove, coon, rabbit, squirrel "sorry RJS yep we kill them too" LOL, many more that I'm missing I'm sure.

If you dont want to get a non resident, we can get together and shoot skeet if nothing else. I set up in my front yard, have two throwers. and can waste a few shells.

 

Yeah....I run up to Springfield, IL every once and a while to shoot trap at a friends farm....we go through a box of targets and at least 100 shells each....good times...

you got much quail and dove out by you?.....don't have much here...at least much on the public lands....

 

Tons of Dove, quail are starting to make a come back, I havent hunted Quail in 3 + years. I raised 3 dozen in cooperation with a Missouri Department of Conservation program to try and increase the numbers, a few years ago. I turned those loose on my place. Have no idea where they went, I probably just fed the stinking Coyotes.

Yea you can kill as many of those that you see, any time of year as far as I'm concerned.

 

Yeah....coyotes make good target practice with the 30-06......

...I really wish that there was more pheasant around here...I am not too keen on driving more than 3 hours for some good pheasant....we have about 40 acres up near springfield that we can usually stir 6-8 pheasants up in (half are hens) but other than that...there are only the controlled hunts at the state parks....not too much of a fan of those....although...pheasant tastes unbelievable good...so I am not going to pass up on any type of pheasant.....

....quail really are not hard to come by around here...unfortunately the state parks limit your daily kill to around half the state limit.....so it usually takes a few days to get a decent meal built up....and if the park system is the only place you can go (which is all I have available to me) it is even harder to get a meal due to the popularity of the public grounds....

....none the less, I am ready to get out of IL....not really a fan of all the gun restrictions and the tight hunting regulations....the democrats are really taking this state in a direction that will make hunting a past time that no longer exisits....

 

We have to go further north for phesant, I havent been since I was a little kid, can't even remeber what they tast like.

I hate chicken and I have never had a game that taste like chicken as everyone says.
Chicken does not have a taste to me. To me it's bland and like chewing meat that somebody else has already chewed all the flavor out of. I can taste the spices or batter depending on how it's cooked but I can't taste the actuall meat it's just a texture in my mouth.

 

I totally agree...I am not a fan of chicken either....if it weren't for the method of preparation....chicken would not have any taste at all.....I rarely EVER order or cook chicken....the only way I cook it is if I have friends over that are against eating venison....I don't ever buy beef either....I have grown up on venison and beef just has a taste that makes me sick to my stomach.....something about injesting meat from an animal that is lazy and spends the day digesting grass through 7 stomachs and passing gass that just is not appealing to me....
