I'd guess the NRA will be spending some big bucks in IL in '06!
Truth be told, I believe in local will of the people over federal or even state law. That was the crux of the debate over federalism leading up to the ratification of our Constitution a few hundred years back. The states feared being told what to do by Washington. They wanted to steer their own course. The crafters of our Constitution bent over backwards to address this concern. In fact, things such as the Second Amendment were, at least in part, meant to address just this very issue.
I live in the most conservative city in Colorado (Colorado Springs). Our county sheriff elected to start issuing carry permits long before it became a state-level issue. Thank God we had that freedom; if the expat, er, let's say notoriously liberal folk from a certain large West Coast state who have over the years migrated to Denver en mass (aka Califoradoans) would’ve had their way, we wouldn't have been free to make that choice as a community (note: there are increasingly more and more Califoradoans here in the Springs too, so our demographic is shifting also). As far as I'm concerned, anyone here in the Springs who doesn't like our carry permits can move north to Denver (or back to the West Coast). Anyone in Denver who doesn't like their strict anti-gun policies is welcome to carry their .45 on down here to the Springs and take up residence. In other words, people should choose to live amongst like-minded people, because you'll never see a national or even state-level consensus on anything controversial like gun ownership or rights.
On an ironic note, Denver just this week passed a law legalizing possession of up to 1 oz of Mary Jane. Law enforcement flatly stated they would enforce state and federal law against possession, so it was only a symbolic victory for the pro-smoke crowd. You'd never get anything like that passed in conservative Colo Spgs (think Focus on the Family). I see this as contradictory. We advocate the right of someone to choose to carry a firearm. We are staunchly opposed to that same person's freedom to carry a certain plant (weed really, pun intended).

That's why I am in Indiana, even though I work in Chicago. I do have a permit for Indiana, just need to remember to leave things at home before going to work. Otherwise, I could be in a heap of trouble.

Also, how could I find out about gun (rifle, shotgun, hand gun) laws in New Mexico? Like simple instructional things. (i.e. CAN & CANNOTS of gun owning [walking around with a visible weapon])
Cause as I understand it you don't need a license in NM to carry a gun, just a concealed one.

In Colorado Springs, you can carry out in the open without a permit - INCLUDING in government offices. I had to laugh when I picked up new plates for the KR recently. There was a sign at the front door with something to do with responsibly displaying your firearm. I guess some city council folk got real nervous one time when someone who was vocally opposed to a policy they were about to vote on entered the gallery with his shotgun in hand and proceded to glare at them.

Illinois is to guns as California is to Emissions. Thay want to ban them!
Move to Kentucky. Kentucky is one of the few states that dont have a "cool down" waiting period when buying guns.
Ky can use high powered rifles in deer season, unlike Illinois.
Ky can purchase a firearm and bring it home right then, right there. NO waiting period.
Basically no gun laws... Ky rocks.

As far as gun purchasing goes, anyone seen Bowling for Columbine?... I saw 10 minutes of it once & they mentioned something about walking into a bank in Michigan & openning a bank account & receiving a free gun, any truths to this?

That was completely staged by Moore. You should NEVER believe anything that man says. may want to check out some other sources to get a counterpoint to MM.
