Engagement Ring advice

Well, this will be my second go around with marriage but I have Honestly found my Perfect Match so I am looking to Purpose sometime soon.

Figured I would ask for advice on a ring
I know she wants a platinum ring, I wish she liked gold because I went around to the local jewelers yesterday and their platinum selection is very poor and Very plain looking. Plenty of nice gold sets very attractive, and some nice white gold I know white gold is a bad is a bad idea because they change to gold and tun yellow and as with gold and white gold they bend easy.I like the interlocking sets most.

I want atleast a 1 karat for the main diamond, I have a buddy that has a friend that is a wholesaler so I am going to see what he has or can get.

Any advice would be appreciated, I live around Savannah Ga. if anyone knows a good place to go that isn't to pricey!

Thanks

Do what I'd do, get a box of cracker Jacks, look for the free gift inside! Sometimes its a nice plastic little ring!

I proposed with a rock on a solitare setting because no matter how much you think you know her, you'll pick out the wrong setting. A Rock is one thing, they want big and clear. Get it on a solitare (should be free!!!) propose to her then give her a budget to pick out a setting. Then she'll love it for sure b/c she picked it out.

First of all, if my wife-to-be, can quote to me the "type" of ring she's looking for; then I'd let her @$$ go...
My roomate at Ft. Hood was about to tie the knot, but- he couldn't give her te ring until he saved enough money to afford it.

The PX had multi-carat (karat; whatever) rings and she wanted a 5 karat, solitairre, yadda-yadda, yadda, with yadda-yadda,yadda. That ring was $5,500.00 back in 1994.

I said man; if that gilr is telling you what kind of ring she wants, then- that's not the girl YOU want... She's materialistic...

If she's not happy with a $500.00 ring from Wal-Mart, then- that's not the right woman.

You can always buy a better ring. But, if her happiness is contingent upon the ring's statistics; then you are not gonna be happy down the road.

As for the ring bending, stay around 14 Kt to 10 Kt; those don't bend as easily. When you get around 18kt, 24kt, that may as well be made out of play doh. I brought bck some 21Kt rings from Saudia Arabia. They are as soft as an empty soda can...

Although I have been accused of liking flash and show sometimes . . . this is definitely one of those times I don't

I can't stand jewelry. I don't understand it. The only thing I wear is a watch and that's because it's functional and even then I haven't worn one in years.

I don't get women's desire for some big rock and I certainly don't get why men usually end up getting them something like that.

If it were me . . . if I were ever going to get married, I'd get her a simple platinum band. No giant stone, heck no stone at all.

If she whines and sez she won't settle for anything less than a big rock . . . well, THAT would not be the person I would marry.

Thank you very much, give me the band back, au revoir!!!!

Simple platinum band. Cheaper than a rock, very stylish, and if she loves you she'll be happy with anything.

IT'S. NOT. ABOUT. THE. RING. (If it is, then it's about the wrong thing).

But hey . . . that's just me, and probably why I never got married.

K-

She isn't materialistic I have not come out and asked her directly but we were talking about a friend of hers ring and she said she would want a platinum because it doesn't bend and she only wears white gold earings and necklaces and such, so of course she would want it to match her other jewelry.

1 carat isn't all that big, and she would be happy with anything just being with me is all she wants.

My biggest problem is I can't find a descent selection of interlocking platinum rings. I WANT HER to have something very impressive but not gaughty.

I am thinking 1 carat with some smaller ones surrounding it to give it some sparkle.

I have a friend and he lets his wife pick hers out I know how cheap he is and if it were real it would be 5 carat easy! But I know it is fake and everyone that looks at it can tell!!

I make good money, but even I don't see spending over $5,000 on a ring I am not into financing one either.

I agree with Kobi.....you should never marry a woman for something $5 can get you on the local corner of downtown.....you should marry for companionship....and a try companion would not want you to waste money on a ring.....get a basic ring and spend the rest on a trip somewhere together....memories are worth their weight in gold....

Agreed, not what i meant at all. I think it was mis understood. These forums always seem to mis-interpret my statements seeing as how you cant hear inflection or sarcasm...if there is any to be heard or not.

P.S. $5 is quite the bargain.
