Jarhead
being a Marine and seeing movies like this were i have been there and done that, they never get it right or they glorify things that are not to be glorified, sometimes they are right on, its like the news they pick and choose what they want to be displayed, i will keep my opinions untill i actualy see the movie
I'm sure it'll be BS... It's got Marines in it!
Just kidding- Marines are just like Soldiers; only tougher.... (At least, that's what their Drill Sergeants told them)
Anyhoo, it's got some big shoes to follow...
1.) We Were Soldiers
2.) Saving Private Ryan
3.) Blackhawk Down
Honorable Mention:
4.) Platoon
5.) Full Metal Jacket
6.) Hamburger Hill
At-Ease, Private:

Man, my room-dog, best friend and damn-near "brother" from my first two years in the Army E-mailed me. We lost touch after I got out in December 1996.
He's hip-deep in Iraq right now, with 2.5 - 3 more months left over there. He and I were Buck-Privates to E-4 Specialists together, at 3rd Infantry Division, 123rd SIG BN, Wurzburg, West Germany, (1988 - 1990). (Currently reassigned to Ft Stewart, GA)
I was always a few months ahead as far as rank went, but he beat me to E-5. Our goal was to both become CSM's (Command Sergeant Majors) and do 30-years. I got tired after 10, opting for a life w/my wife away from FTX's & deployments; he's still in. Today, he has served 18 years, he's an E-7 (Sergeant First Class) on the E-8 (Master Sergeant) selection board. He's also been a Dril SGT: All the things we planned to do together.
Seing him in uniform, with those Chevrons & rockers, really made me wish I had stayed in..
Hooah! I don't miss it, but- sometime, I really miss it... Know what I mean?
I want to see it as well. I want to see what all these guys who used to take up space on our ships and cluttered it with Q-tips actually do when they are not blind folded taking apart and putting back together their guns…
Even though I was a sailor and not a marine I still consider them my brothers…

I've read the book. Swofford in the book comes off as a half ***, drunkard, suicidal slacking coward, but if anything, the book was funny as hell. Lots of stories and experiences that you probably won't see outside of the military. I plan on seeing the movie.

Everytime I see bigtruck make a post I think to myself, "Why DID I get out?" Then it hits me....I'm making a better living, and providing for my family better, but damn....I miss blowing chit up.

i know what you mean, i got out for 45 days before i re enlisted the first time, i just couldnt handle it(civilian life) i had a better job(more money) all lined up and everything, but i broke down and went right back, i just can not stand not being a Marine, i love the life and what i do, i have seen 13 countrys and made some of the best friends you can ever meet, one day i weighed all the pros to cons and there were way more pros, the wife dont see things that way tho, since i am gone half the year training for war or doing it, bout to go back soon like march april next year and i cant wait
Well.....I leave work at noon today....gonna head straight to the theatre to see the movie (not enough motivation to do my laundry).....I will let you know what I think after....
I like all war related movies, so I'll see it. Don't get me wrong not all are good though. The only thing is I can't get into Jamie Fox being a bad azz. I remember him in his goofy skits on the comedy show he used to be on and I just can't see him as tough. I liked him in Ray, but in that role was different as well. Kinda like Will Smith, every movie I see him in I see the goofy Fresh Prince of Bell Air kid, you know. I can't take these guys seriously.
I have not read the book about Jarhead, but I hope the movie dose justice to the real story.
