I think I messed up

This is turning into a bummer of a weekend. I was having a great day at work yesterday and then I twisted my knee. I was leaning over and it just popped, then it buckled on me. I managed to finish the day but by the time I got home about 4 hours later, it wasn't doing well at all. I started with ice packs, but all that did was lock it up so I couldn't move it. Last night I started alternating heat and ice.

Here's what it looks like today. I hope it's better by Monday. I dislike being immobilized.

Looks like you may be getting some fluid build up. You may end up with a needle in there to drain it out. I hyperextended mine playing football in school. I was on crutches for 6 weeks. They drained a crapload of nastyness out of there.

The fact that it seems to be a bit bruised has me a bit worried? If you get bruised from the inside out, you might have some kind of a problem.

Dude, you need to fix that at once. Go and get yourself an bic ink pen.
Take the inside out so all you have left is a spitball shooter. Now this next
step may hurt a little, I would recommend holding an ice cube on the spot
first. Anyway, take the gutted pen and slam it in your knee. If you dont
get it in far enough you will have to push a little harder to get to the fluid
build up. Once in give your knee a good squeeze. Leave the pen in and slide
some fish tank hose down through the middle and then pull the pen out.
Tada....now you have a tube inserted for future draining. Just clamp it off
when you dont need to drain it. Or put a little duct tape over the end.

Now before you ask......no Iam not a doctor, but I did stay at a
Holiday Inn Express once!!!

No really though that sucks.......you really should at least get it checked
out. For the simple reason to make sure nothings really damaged, because
if it is. Its going to be worse the next time you do it and will be prone to
happen again much easier.
Take it easy on that thing. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

First I have to say, sorry it happened, I did the same thing about 30 years ago. Second, the first 24 hours, NEVER use heat on that type of injury. Ice only. Again I made the same mistake 30 years ago. You should go see an orthopedic surgeon. Doesn't necessarily mean surgery or draining, mine didn't, but he will tell you how to take care of it at the very least.
Also, I have to say, since it happened once, it will probably happen again. I hurt mine twice more in the 5-10 years after the first injury. I learned after the first to only use ice and was laid up a far shorter time.
My right knee is like yours permanently, right knee is larger than the left.

My right knee does that ever now and then. Pops out and pops right back in. Hurts like all hell too. The first time it did it was about four years ago, and it's done it another two or three times since. Kingfish is right; if it's happened once, it'll happen again, and eventually it'll go POP and won't pop back.

I went to the docs, and they just told me that I sprained it, gave me some happy pills and sent me on my way. I'm thinking to myself, "Sprains don't go POP!" I haven't got back around to getting a second opinion though, but from what some medical type friends tell me, they say I may have an ACL problem and that I need to get a second opinion in the worst kinda way. I'd agree with what others say here though, get it checked out ASAP.

Ouch, that looks painful. I agree with the masses, get to a doctor as soon as you can. Knees are not something to mess around with. Let us know how it works out.

It's not hurting much this morning and I can bend it from straight to 90 degrees.

A friend's wife is a physical therapist and they stopped by yesterday so she could look at it. She said it looks like I strained the ACL but she wanted me to go have a specialist look at it. I'll make some phone calls tomorrow and see if I can get an appointment

I have a problem with kneecap rubbing against the joint. I forget the technical name for it, but basically the knee cap doesn't line up right. My first pain experience was similar, but only a little swelling. After weeks of therapy and NO results, they injected some cortizone in the knee and it's been pretty good for a couple years now.

From the looks of it, I doubt that's your problem. It looks like you threw something out or tore something a bit. I would see a specialist as soon as you can.

you need to go see a doc. It doesn't mean that YOU need surgery, but I've seen knees that looked batter than yours that did.
