Internet explorer help

OK guys and gals...I'm having a problem with my computer or IE. (Not the one I'm currently using)
While surfing for pictures of, um trucks. Ya, truck pictures, I noticed that when I right click and save as, it only lets me save pics as bmp's now. I used to save pics in jpg format, which seemed higher quality. I am using win XP with service pack2. Can anyone help me out here?

It should save the picture in whatever form it was when you downloaded it. Verify that the pictures you're viewing and saving aren't bmp's to begin with.

A test would be to go to the gallery here and save some random pictures. All the still pictures should be jpg's

Empty your internetcache.
Before you can save a jpg file, it has to be in the cache first.
At least that is what I read in a computermagazine describing this problem.
