Black Widows

Does anyone know how to get rid of a bunch of black widows? I've killed about a dozen in the past week and didn't tell the wifey because I knew she would freak out. Long story short, she found one on a web between her car and our boat this afternoon and called me at work saying she wansn't coming home untill I took care of all the spiders. I know I'm going to get hungry in a few hours, so is there something I can spray for them, or do I need to call an exterminator?

Just got off the phone with the exterminator.....he can't come until next week. But the good news is I convinced the wifey to come home, and supper should be ready by the time I get off work......and the beer should be nice and cold too

We get spiders in our house... I don't knwo f they're Brown Recluse's or not; but I don't take the time to make a positive ID; I liet the size 13 take care of them..

But, we have a contract with an extermination company. He told us they can kill just about every pest- except spiders... Because spiders aren't belly draggers, they are harder to kill with normal barrier & repellents. He said you have to spray it right on them to kill them.

I would have thought he was full fo doo-doo, but when we were with Sears, that guys said the same thing...

I guess I need Dale Dribble to come spray my house... Anyone know where Arlen, TX is?

Well, I know the blue Raid Can in a good start. It used to be called Raid MAXX but I think it's something different now. Anyway, you spray that stuff all around the entry ways (garage door, etc.) Another thing that seems to work well with black widows anyway, is some sort of high frequency sound repelent. We used to get all kinds of widows here (I killed 11 in one day) untill I put in the sound pest repelents that you buy at SAMS Club. I think they are $25 for a pack of 5. I put 3 in the garage and I haven't seen a black widow since. I have seen some small red widows though, but not very often. The BIG brown spiders don't seem to care for the sound repelent either.

I'm more phobic about handling the pesticides than the pests themselves - best left to professionals.
Peaceful coexistance is my motto, tempered with the size 12...............until the 3rd Thursday of the month when the "MAN" comes

I killed a brown widow about two weeks ago on my front porch. I took some hair spray and sprayed it while it was on it's web. Figured it would immobilize the bastid. It struggled around a little and broke free and climbed up to the gutter. Next I took some Mean Green in a spray bottle and put the sprayer on "stream" and shot at him until I knocked his ugly a$$ down from there. He fell about three feet in front of me and started sprinting right towards me. There I stood barefoot on the front porch with a poisonous brown widow running full blast at my toes. So I jumped back, and low and behold there was a pair of my old shoes. I grabbed a size 12 Reebok and smashed that sumbich to hell. He put up a good fight though.

The cheap, redneck way is diesel fuel. Load up the garden sprayer, and soak the base of your house. It kills everything grass, bugs you name it it is dead. Just be careful, don't do this when it might rain. Until it is soaked in to the dirt, rain will wash it away and give you a striped yard and pi$$ed neighbors. The best part is it works for quite a while.

Spiders....bahhhhh....I live near Phoenix, it is GREAT fun to wander around the backyard at night with a black-light. Spiders are the least of my concern!!!

I have this huge spider in my house...

Oops, I guess she belongs here, I even feed the darned thing (but only when the hubby's out of town!) Any other spiders that find their way in are dead on sight.

I used to be scared of the things, that is until one of my buddies was showing me his pics of camel spiders in Iraq.....he said stomping on one of those was like stepping on someones hand and trying to break their fingers. Ever since then, our little black widows just don't seem so scary. But like I said before, the wifey freaks out about anything. Last summer she found a lizard in a windowsill, and called me at work wanting me to come kill it. It seems the air freshener she sprayed on it didn't do the job.
