Unfortunately we do learn something new everyday. Your above link is proof that it is not an honest time line but rather just what the title is ”Talking points Memo”.

Very biased report written by the left to make the federal government look responsible while the FACT remains the true majority of the fault belongs to the local and state government of NO.

People died, many people died in NO and it was DIRECTLY related to the inactions of the local and state government of NO.

Those ARE the FACTS, and they are undisputed…

See, you really do learn something new everyday and its called the TRUTH…

Does it really matter?

Again...geesh.

Saddam was told 'prove you don't have them - the whole world thinks you do - you even admit to having them!'

Saddam didn't meet the standard...so we took over his country, and are in the process of giving it back to the people who reside therein.

[Sarcasm] Don't be too critical of the Levee Board. They did just spend jillions of dollars on a new fountain and a new overpass to the casinos. That money was well spent! [/Sarcasm]

The doofus levee board president said last night that the levee did it's job! Unbelievable! That board should be held criminally responsible.

I grew up with our home nestled up lovingly close to the same levee that used to protect New Orleans- However- our Levee hold back the Mississippi River, which is not normally whipped into a frenzy by 170 MPH winds- as was Lake Pontchartrain. All that water crashing into those candy-@$$ levee's they got down there- was in the end- a design flaw that will make it's way onto A&E's "Enginering Disasters" Hall of Fame..

New Orleans residents (Currently seekign refuge in my home town) marvel at the size of our levee compared to there's... Ours is a good 30-40 feet tall (We used to run up & down that damm-thing at football practice) That'll build some leg muscle!!!

My question is... Why build a levee that can only withstand a Cat 3 storm, when Cat 5's are possible?? Now- if this was something way off the chart of the Saffir-Simpson scale (Say something that created a Cat 6 level) and the levee failed- no one coudl be blamed. But; when you've seen Cat 5's hit this country- and you're surrounded by water- if you're going to build a barrier- it shoudl be built to withstand the worse "known" possible conditions...

At least- that's what I think... I could be wrong...

It is a neat little formula that revolves around a cost/benefit ratio, politics and statistical probability.

Exactly. There are levees all over the world that may be designed to withstand, say, a 100 year flood/storm, but not a once in 500 year storm.

FWIW, requiring every building in the nation to have complete protection from a once in 500 year weather event (or earthquake, for that matter) will KILL our economy. It would cost far more to protect/save these buildings than they are worth.

If we PAID for a levee that could withstand a CAT 5 storm and we only built a levee that could withstand CAT 3 hurricane, then you have a political scandal about where the money went.

I have membership to Phi Theta Kappa, membership in Phi Beta Kappa, an IQ of 144, and a 3.833 GPA- that would disagree with you!

Not that I like to brag- or anything...
