Not a lot to disagree with you on in what you said...

Life is about choices; I could have chosen to accept a football scholarship and play at Mississippi State, Ole Miss, A number of Junior Colleges, or NLU (Now ULM) in Monroe- but, for some reason I had my heart set of playing for Eddie Robinson @ Grambling State University. When GSU didn't call; I decided to go to the Army instead... I didn't want to play for anybody else. NLU was begging me to come; but I didn't want to play for them because they'd gone 1-9 that year and I wasn't a loser... Maybe not; but I was stupid- not even considering the fact that a college degree was the most important thing to achieve; not football... I didn't see the value in it because my Uncle had money (OR so I thought) and he didn't go to college; he was in the Army- had gone days after graduating High School... With no father figure, I followed his lead... I've done well; but maybe I could have done better blazing a trail of my own... I had no idea how important college would be down the road; nor did I know my Uncle was working all day, and in school all night working on his degree- which he got from the University of Hawaii...

I have lost many a night sleep pondering my ignorant decision... Now, I never will know if I could have been a good college or pro player- why, because I made a choice. Fortunately, I've been blessed in the choices I did make- and I have made a good life for myself. I have a career, a job, a family, two dogs, three cars and two houses- so, I haven't done badly. I have a degree in Management and I am currently back in college to get my Master's in Business Administration; but I chose that path~ it's been tough- but I'm still swinging~ I haven't quit, and I won't quit...

When I look at what I've done- I don't feel special; even though I have accomplished more, seen more, earned more and gained more than many in my 36 years; it's only because I had a good upbringing, I've made good choices, and mainly because I have been blessed that my bad choices didn't come back and bite me in the ****. (Number 1 being- engaging in underage-unprotected sex) Nothing will trip you up in life faster, harder- and for as long as having a child when you are too young. Thank God that didn't happen to me... Is it a death sentence? No, but it can be life limiting; if you are responsible- that is... How different my life would be today; had my girlfriend been pregnant when she thought she was, back in 1987. I'd probably still be in the Army now, and my son/daughter would be about to turn 18. That's a life-altering event.

So I agree, bad choices can be a life-long affliction. A lot of what you said above is true; and a lot of it is high-level glaze which is true in some senses but not completely accurate when you dig into the meat of it. (Slavery; proportions/disproportions of job placement in America, etc...) But, I won't delve into that. I can only say that statistics exist to prove almost any point. I did research in 1999 for a 15-minute Persuasive Speech I had to write & recite in college; and my topic was "Why Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action needs to remain in the United States"

I got my "Empirical Evidence" from the Report to the President; from Whitehouse.gov; via Lexus/Nexus (sp). It said something to the effect that white males made up 37% of America's workforce; but held 95% of the Executive level jobs in America. That is the disproportion I think you hear about mostly in the news... With equally, and in some cases- better educated minorities (including white women), why do white males dominate this category? That's the question I hear the most; but- that's a topic for another thread...

I agree with you cia-agent, my exiperience on this earth for 24 years in the world has given me the insight in life. The thing i said earlier about K.West and that he is not racist is my opinion. And to tell me that there is not racism in the world is to think very blindly. Just today i was driving my New baby and I got an egg thrown at my truck and I heard some white guys yell "F**king Ni**er" Yes today it is f**king 2005 and yes this s**t is happening. You know it is funny because as you better yourself in the world (I have a B.S. in avaition maintenance) they will never let you forget what you are and "keep you in your place". But back to the K.West issue I still think that he was speaking his mind. Maybe not at the right time but that is all he was doing. But all that to say I dont know if Bush is racist. Oh yeah people say that Bush has appionted more black people to a higher office. Well let us look at Colin Powell who Quit and that other lady Condoleezza Rice well I have no words for her.
