Here's the facts...
Too whomever said DLR couldn't sing, you obviously were not listening or are just jealous it wasn't you doing it ...
ALL rock singers from the sixties through today ( with one exception ) had a
vocal range a/o key they sang / sing in then are harmonized with by backup vocalists to make the tune what it becomes .... fact ... The exception was
Robert Plant who did his own backup vocals ( no one else in Zep sang )

in 1973 a rock band hits the circuit by the name of Montrose on Warner Bros
records produced by Ted Templeman lead singer Sammy Hagar. After some
personal differences that band breaks up Montrose goes solo with new singer.
Hagar goes solo with hired guns

in 1978 another rock band hits the circuit by the name Van Halen on Warner
Bros. records produced by Ted Templeman lead singer David Lee Roth
After some personal differences that band breaks up Van Halen goes solo with
new singer. DLR goes solo with hired guns.

They were both a reflection of each other technically

The problem was that Eddie should have brought in an unknown up and coming singer from the circuit and that would have been sswweeettt..
( though they did make some cash with Sammy, Sammy was an already known frontman )

Then when Eddie asked Gary to join, He really wasn't allowed to be himself,
he kicked butt with Extreme but was more or less hurt by the wrong directions of over the top producers, aahh the music biz ... such as it is ..

So the real answer is : The band Van halen was fronted by David Lee Roth
Van Halen the solo act had Sammy then Gary do some vocal work for them.
As for DLR being a fairy and or clown .. If touring the world as a rock star
seeing the world as a very rich private citizen ( made rich by touring the world as a rock star ) and having more women perform crazy sex with me then
you'll probably even talk too in three lifetimes .. bring me the wings and shoes
that go with it 'cuz fairyland is obviously the place too be ......
