Angry Cajuns (Katrina)
Well stated CIA, I agree with all of it. Did anyone else see the looter that was carring a TV out? Where did he think he was going to use that thing?

I see both sides of it. I see that these people looting for food and water are just trying to survive. Not that I agree with that, but you can't put them in the same category as these idiots that are looting clothes, shoes, jewelry and electronics. These are the people that are trying to capitalize on the situation. These are the same kinds of people looting homes that survived the storm. These are the people that should be shot on site.
Looting For Food After A Hurricane -- who cares, since the food is going to be spoiled shortly anyways. It might as well go to some good!
Looting For Material Goods After A Hurricane -- D.O.A. End of story!

I too agree with CIA-Agent on most, if not all, points. I also can't help but wonder if these people are still in a state of shock and really don't understand what it is they are doing when they go along with the crowd and loot. Desperation, hunger, thirst, uncertainty, profound loss, and maybe shock; that's a hell of a combination.
Who's to say what any of us would do in the same situation.
My first thought or inclination would be to just shoot anyone taking advantage of the situation but after thinking about it for awhile, well, who am I to judge.
Now for the people that are raping and murdering, well, they are worth the price of one bullet and a little target pratice. See this Blog if you really want to get mad.

These SOB's are raping people? How in the heck can sinking your ____ in somebody, possibly make the situation better? I'm no judge, but when lawlessness of that nature arises- I could certainly look the other way if someone shot the rapists in the head... How sickening..
I mean, the stupidity hit a new level when they started shooting at the Army Helicopters that were coming to get injured people to safety. But. when it becomes OK in someone's mind to start raping folks- it's time to take the gloves off...
I feel bad about the destruction of a major city- but that's no reason to start violating people... It's bad enough to lose the relatives, and matierial stuff.. No need to take anyone's dignity.

I hate the idea of allot of those people being absorbed into our Georgia economy. That said, I can't see dumping $billions$ into rebuilding a city that's below sea level and probably shouldn't have been built in the first place. Eventually, it will all happen again there with another cat 4 or 5 Hurricane!!

As it should... (Be rebuilt that is)
Good or bad, Nawlins has stood for over 140 years. They just need to look at better barriers, locks & damns- perhaps taller levees, or concrete; something...
I won't be moving there; but New Orleans must be rebuilt... Hurricane Betsy did the samething to New ORleans, and that was before the levee was even there. So, if I got rebuilt then- surely it will now. Were it not for the levee breach- New Orleans would still be in dire straights- but not nearly as bad as it is now...

Barvo and Kudos to CIA for the right up! I agree 100%!
I was watching the news the night before it hit, they were reporting that the governers office estimated 20% of the population had decided they would stay. One resident that they interviewed about it, I remember him saying ("bleep" no I ain't leaving. BRING IT ON!)...... I wonder where he is today?
Edited to add:
We all have these people in every town.... Around here they end up on the news once or twice a year. Ussually talking about how the tornado sounded as it came throu thier trailer park!
And no these folks dont have a f150.... Some how tehy end up with a new Vette or a Porsche "that is worth twice thier mobile home" and it's parked in thier driveways!
But thats a subject for another day.

Those dumb bozo's. Shooting at the volunteers who are attempting to help. These are the same people who will be complaining that no help arrived. The boneheads in the dome killing and raping are the same people who will be suing the government because their civil rights were violated when being searched to get in the Astrodome. These are the reason I'm getting out of this job. People bite the hand that feeds them, then complain because they aren't being fed. Yo dumf#$%s wise up and shut up! (Rant off).
I hope they get the levy fixed soon so they can start pumping the city out. I don't think they should rebuild, but I can understand why they will. Hopefully the people affected can return to as normal a life as possibel soon.

I don't think they should rebuild New Orleans -- talk about throwing good money after bad! There's plenty of land north of Lake Ponchartrain that could be used to build housing for folks that wouldn't be so susceptible to hurricane and flood damage!
Outside of the ten square blocks around the Quarter, New Orleans was the biggest, rat-infested, he11-hole of a city you could ever find -- and I live in Houston, so I know one when I see one!

The people that stayed in New Orleans are so stupid. They had about 5 days to move out before the hurricane hit but they didn't.
And today when I was driving home from school I heard the song "Rock you like a Hurricane" from the Scorpions. Pretty ironic.

The problem I have (and I think others share) is what I see on my TV. I see people demanding help. Blaming others for the situation they are in. Yelling that the local, state and federal government has to help them NOW. They NEED TO BE SAVED!!!. And they do. The problem is that it seems likely that many of these people have been "being saved" by the tax payer dollars for years. Now is the time that it's necessary to use our tax dollars to help people who haven't been contributing there fair share. But to demand it?
I live in a city. There is plenty of poverty here too. I would guess that of the 100% of people who benefit from our tax dollars, 50% are contributing. I know there are a lot of people here (on the boards) that make good money. I'm not one of them. We (my girl and I) own a crappy house, because that's what we can afford. I have a nice truck but probably should have spent less. We don't have much for savings. Not enough to get us out of a jam. We work hard to have this crappy house and decent vehicles. We pay our taxes, so that the 50% who aren't contributing their fair share can have basicly the same things we have. They don't have to bust their a$$ to get it though. And they know it. It's funny though how when the city has financial issues (like now, there is a state appointed control board to over see city financial decisions) and cuts need to be made it's the "poor unfortunate ones", the ones who know that I will got to work, and pay my taxes so that they can have things too, who are the most vocal about how it will effect them.
What happened on the gulf coast it a tragidy for all involved. I would not wish that on anyone. I would like to hear that all the people who need help are getting help. So far that's not what I'm hearing. I'm hearing people blaming, and demanding. I'm hearing about the looting, the raping, the robbing and the shooting. Our tax dollars do need to help the poor, but the poor don't need to be so many.
I hope for all of our sakes this is under control soon.
