What would happen if . . .

So, what would happen if the hurricane essentially caused a permanent geological event, in other words, the water doesn't receded, N.O. stays underwater? (Water level continues to rise, as of now 80% of N.O. under water and the level increases. The LA Governor just called for any remaining people in the area evacuated)

So,it is even possible that the water would not receded? That essentially and new lake / bayou / or whatever it would be called there is formed? We've got some engineers / geologists / experts in this area on this site . . . could it happen?

If it could happen, what would happen if a city of a million were suddenly displaced?

I don't think it could... they'd just pump it out and rebuild... it would be interesting to hear them say "Ahhh F it, let's just rebuild 10 miles up the road...

If it can't be rebuilt, Im glad Im in the real estate business!

Earlier they said N.O. was 80% underwater and the water was rising at a rate of 1 foot every hour!

I say it is possible.....but since so much money, heritage/history and business is located in Noorlaaans.....they would most like pump out the water at the taxpayers expense and rebuild....only to be hit again from the next global-warming induced tropical storm comes along.....

EDIT:

you know....it truely amazes me, the conditions in which the human race is willing to edure living within.....honestly....who in their right mind would build BELOW SEA LEVEL near the "sea"....?

I love how the Superdome was built above sea level but everything else was built lower.

its a good thing the tides aren't that extreme. If this were in Alaska or Maine... it would be over.

I agree. WTF wants to live under sea level. They've been dodging a bullit for sometime now. They need to move that place.

It only takes good and smart civil engineering and we're good at it.

So just out of curiosity, F150Europe, what is it like having just about the only F-150 on the continent? Do European's even know what a pick-up is? Living in the US it's hard to imagine in world in which pick-ups aren't omnipresent!

Or just bulldoze everything and bring in tons of dirt to raise the elevation. Hopefully they will get those breeches patched up and start the pumps again before any more damage is done.
