Hurricanes and Rear-ending... Punk kid screws up my ride.

I am from Miami, and after hurricane Katrina hit, I was out and about taking care of family. Anyhow, there were a lot of traffic lights without power. For those of you that don't know, nonfunctioning traffic lights are to be treated as four-way stops.

So, I stop at the nonfunctioning traffic light and see this punk kid come racing down in the lane next to me. I slide my window down and stick my hand out to signal him to stop. He slams his brakes and comes to a complete stop. I held up four fingers to signify that the light was to be treated as a four-way stop. The kid rolls down his window and asks me if I am "a cop or something". Naturally, I told him "I am much worse than a cop because a cop will simply arrest him, but I will stick my foot in [his] a$$." I told him to pull over so I can show him. He accelerates rather sharply from the stop and I accellerate at a resonable speed. He slows down a bit and I start thinking that this kid is going to give me the opportunity to beat him over the head with my fists. Nope... instead of pulling over, he swerves into my lane and slams his brakes. I rear-ended him. I wanted to kill the kid, but I knew that the situation could get really out of hand and I could end up in jail, since we had to call the police to deal with the accident anyway.

The police completely sided with my story, roughed up the kid a little bit, but in the end, gave me the option of writing up a "no fault" accident report, or walking away without making a claim to my insurance. There was just insufficient eveidence to deem the kid at fault. He said he saw a cat. If anything, I should have gotten the ticket for rear-ending him. I chose to walk away.

Of course, I need to fix my bumper now. It has a pretty nice dent right where the opening is that we all fill in with billet kits and what not... square on. It's a painted Fx4 bumper... Where do I go from here? FPN has the bumper for $317 painted. Is there any other hardware that may be damaged? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to find a black Fx4 bumper. Thank you for your time!

PS. I'll have pics up later.

Since the bumper was already damaged, did you at least get in an extra shot to his car? Hopefully he finds himself with a huge repair bill as well....

People wonder why I want out of the city!

I am sure there was damage to his car, but those plastic bumpers have a way of hiding the damage. His car was a 1989 nissan 240, so even if there was damage, he probably wouldn't have noticed. I just want to fix my truck... I am glad I got out of that mess without killing him. I was really hot.

Shoulda killed him and placed the bodies under a knocked over tree/pole or something and driven away. That would be cool.

Before driving away, take any money he may have out of his wallet first.

Excellent suggestion! The icing on the cake would be to **** on them, but that darn DNA might come back to bite you. I guess kicking their lifeless bodies would be sweet, too.

So really you started it, then chased the kid down....and it was a no fault.

Did he tell the cops you were threatening him then chased him?

There's always the a$$hole that has to make assumptions and chime in... I told the police officer that I threatened to kick his *** if he didn't learn how to drive. They said nothing of it. It was a state of emergency. I did not chase the kid down; we happened to be going in the same direction. He swerved in front of me and slammed his brakes...

Do me a favor... Go away. I didn't start this thread to hear some idiot tell me I was at fault for "chasing him down", especially when the only facts that have been stated clearly contradict your "interpretation" of the events. There's a difference between verbally assaulting someone and damaging someone's property. It's a shame you can't recognize the distinction. I should be given a medal for not choking the kid to death... You sir... die please. This forum, and the world in general, will be better for it.

Anyhow, as much as I appreciate the suggestions made by some as to how I should handle the situation should it reoccur, does anyone have any suggestions for finding a replacement bumper? Aftermarket or factory? Thanks!

I was thinking the same thing.

Sounds like both of you overeacted. Bad situation when two people can't control their road rage. Stupid kid shouldn't have done that though.
