The Mutha of all Sub-Woofers

Crap like this can drive a lesser man to random acts of violence. Ever wonder why those wierdo rednecks all of a sudden start hiding out and pumping bullets into passing cars on the freeway? If you insist on inflicting yourself on others around you, don't be surprised when they respond unfavorably.

Of course, I've never had a ground-shaking stereo in my car; but if I had and I got a little carried away and rocked it a little hard- I'd tone it down if someone came to me respectfully and asked that I turn it down; especially my home stereo- which I had an a$$hole sensitive-eared "ho" that lived upstairs from me. The first time I was wrong, and I turned it down at her request. But, the next time it was 5:30 PM, and here she comes bamming on my door. I reminded her that quiet hours started at 10:00 PM, and asked her to leave my area. Besides, it was only TV; I wasn't watching something real-loud, like Top Gun...
Usually aggression is met with aggression- and that's when people get hurt.
One should never assume that because they're angry, or have been impeded upon, that they have the "upper-hand" if things get serious. I've seen many people get their a$$ knocked off for approaching folks the wrong way. Now-a-days, these kids are packign guns right along with teh 2,000 Watt amp- something else to think about...
I let them go; we're only gonna be at the light 2-minutes or less, after that- I'll never see them again- and probably won't hear them again, courtesy of Flowmaster...
I saw that 'Pimp my Ride' and that sub is very impressive.
Im not trying to start a flame war here but this is kind of hilarious. You're trying to say rednecks get mad about loud sound systems but what about loud exhaust systems that rumble your insides when they pass by? Im not saying I don't like loud exhaust systems because I do but I also love loud sound systems. Just chill out man. Lifes too short.

They are over priced highly engineered boxes with super cheap speakers in them. That's all they are!
No highs... No lows... It must be Bose!

WTF Mate?!?!?!
For 10G's I could build 130db in home and probably 2 cars with a freq range from 50Hz-15kHz through out the entire spaces, plus have some change to burn!
Whoa, hold up.. wait a minute...what am I doing...Give me 10 large I'll buy the equipment, install it and any left over is payment!

Don't get me wrong those specs minus the power capabilities "or lack there of"), are pretty impressive for a single cabinet. But it's best "peak" sensitivity is 500Hz at 85db... That is about the middle of the common range for the human voice. But at only 85db.??? If your neighbor is mowing then the average lawnmower engine is 90db.! Depending on the distance your walls are going to muffle about 30 db of that "unless your in a sound proof room" so you will only be hearing 55db max (+/-)! That would be like a mumble under the lawn mower especially if there is any other sounds that it is trying to produce too!
Then we have Hi-Fi... LOL Talk about having to be in the "sweet spot"! Especially to hear the 10kHz-40kHz ranges. At 10 feet away if you stepped 2' either side from directly infront of the speakers you would not hear those frequencies!
Then... how in the world do you expect to equalize the volume of the various frequencies to create a pleasing mixture of sound? If you consider that it's coming from a single point with single inputs for all the speakers in the cabinet?
Sorry but from my limited unprofessional knowledge from setting up and running sound for various concerts for everything from bluegrass to acid rock... I'll have to say that I would have to hear it to belive that they could posiabbly in any way attempt "to fill a room" with any type of quality sound reproduction.

I can take all the measured and written specs in the world, favourable or not, and hold them up to my hear and hear . . . nothing.
When I listen to speakers, I don't go and grab a printout and say, you know what, these sound great but the numbers suck. I hate 'em. When my friends hear them they are amazed . . . and not a one has asked for a spec sheet to convince them otherwise.
Slightly ahead of specs are reviews. At least those are representations of what people hear, and almost unanimously Maggies are highly praised for sounding wonderful . . .
but that doesn't convince me either.
I listen. And when I heard them, I bought them. I couldn't care less what the numbers on the paper say. I know what sounds great (and evidently just about every audio reviewer agrees, although that's beside the point).
Do yourself a favour. Go find someplace that has them set up properly and connected to good equipment. Then listen to them (either the 20.1 or the 3.6). After you have heard them, them come back here and ask me if I am kidding.
If you still think they are ***** after hearing them, then they are.
Kobi-
Edited becasue I stuttered while typing and spelled unanimously in some weird and bizarre way.

I like some bass in my music but that things just overkill
I was in line at subway the other day and I was behind a guy that thought his system sounded good. When I say "he thought", I mean it was making his car rattle and I thought it was going to fall apart. It looked like an older crown victoria that was half primer and half bright yellow
. Enough of my story, How much does that thing cost?

kobiashi,
If you were to ask a thousand different audiophiles who they like. Then you will get five thousand different answers or more. You might hear Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, NEAR, Niles, Sonance, Harman Kardon, etc, etc.
But I don’t think that this topic justifies the need for you to slander my opinions or try to confuse facts with opinion, just to prove that your opinion is the right opinion! The stats may not make since to you but they do to an audiophile! We all know that Specs do allow you as a consumer to have an educated guess at how a product will perform and you can pretty much plan that they are exploited slightly, and simply designed to impress the consumer! Unfortunately those specs were less than impressive to me!
.
You can also take all the measured and written specs in the world and hold them to your butt and you will feel nothing.. Yet you post specs like this...
....snip...If I remember correctly it was about 380 or 400 HP...Snip... and expect them to mean something?!?
A gear head recognizes engine specs, like an audiophile recognizes audio specs, like a Techy recognizes PC specs!
Now if you have these or want these then by all means enjoy them or go get them and blast the crap out of them for all I care. Do not let my opinion stop you. But they just do not appear to be suited for my own enjoyment of my own personal audio experience!
If I was going to go high end top of the line I would check into something more like this 5.1 "horn" system that I've drooled over for a few years. For their quality sound reproduction at high volume! http://www.zingali.it/ (tip: look at the Colosseum) I have heard some of the older ones of these... OMG Load AND clear! You could use these at a rowdy party of 500 people and still hear every note from every instrument clearly! From Rock to Rap, from Classic to Opera, these can pull it off flawlessly!
But I have a limited budget and can achieve comparable quality and volume that the average person cannot hear the difference for much less. Let me put it to you this way. If you have to ask how much those are, then you can’t afford it, and they will hang up on you! I know from experience... LOL
Granted my cheaper system must be at least 5 times more powerful than these and run it at 30% to achieve the same quality sound with out having speaker distortion or amplifier compression. But that's beside the point.
I'm just going to stop here....

Dear Matt -
It's apparent you took my post the wrong way. It was never my intention to offend you or anything of that nature. You mention that I was trying to confuse facts with opinion. . . but I was only offering an opinion, my opinion. I was not attacking you. Maybe, if you'll allow me, I can clarify:
(all quotes that follow are yours)
Yes, exactly, and actually, that's part of my point. If it were strictly a numbers game (and let's pretend for a moment that all the specifications listed by manufacturers are truthful and accurate . . . even though we know they are not) . . .but if it were strictly a numbers game, then personal taste would not matter. All one would have to do is look at the specs, see which ones are best, and viola! Those are the speakers to buy! But that's not what happens. As you stated, 1000 people like 1000 different speakers. So, irrespective of what the numbers are, good or bad, lots of people are choosing lots of different components even though the numbers vary greatly. That must mean some people like things even if the specs are not great.
I initially mentioned that if someone wanted to HEAR a good speaker, they should check out the Maggies. The operative word there was HEAR.
You jumped on that and started quoting specs all over the place as if that were all that mattered . Since it seemed, to me at least, and I could be wrong here, but based on what you wrote, all you cared about were the numbers. Actually, it was you who ridiculed my opinion, an opinion based only on sound. I just tried to say that what mattered to me was the sound. I put it in such a way as to say I can't hear numbers but I can hear sound, and I know what sounds good to me and what doesn't. When I saw that you were basing your opinion on numbers (and who knows, maybe that's not all you base your opinion on, but how would I know that based on what you wrote . . . you left me no way to assume otherwise) all I was suggesting was that you should listen to the speakers, forget the numbers for a minute, see if they sound good and if you liked them. As I said at the end, if you didn't like them, then they wouldn't be any good . . . for you. Personally, I think you'd like the Maggies . . . that was all.
YES!!!! ABSOLUTELY!!!!! You've heard them and they sound great!!!! Now, what if someone came up to you and handed you the specs, and let's just say, for the sake of example, that the numbers were not what you would have imagined them to be. Would that have reduced how great they sounded???? Not in the least!!!!!
Me, personally, here's what I think about the speakers you posted a link to . . . THEY ARE GORGEOUS!!!!! All I have to do is look at them to see that they are works of art. I can tell that true craftsmanship went into them. This opinion so far is based on SENSORY input . . .
And - in case you're interested -I will take the time to listen to them too. I'm going to find who around LA sells them and I will demo them. As far as the specs go . . . I DON'T CARE. My guess is the specs are fantastic. But even if the specs were crap, if someone came up to me and said, "Hey, Kobi . . . the specs on those speakers, they don't appear to be suited to a high level of enjoyment," I STILL WOULDN'T CARE. I would say . . . "My friend Matt has heard them. He loved the way they sound. He knows good sound when he hears it. I'm still going to check them out."
Now, I might LOVE them . . . then again, I might not. Whether I loved them or not had nothing to do with the numbers . . . it only had to do with the sound.
Anyway . . . all this is a long way to say . . .speakers make sound . . . I judge them on how they sound. It does not concern me what label is on them, or if some computer took in the sound waves and spit out numbers saying it's ABC and 123. Speakers, I listen to them . . . I don't read them.
You, you look at numbers . . . that's fine. But I also see you listen and enjoy what you hear based on your enthusiasm for the zingalis. So see, hearing . . . it's a good thing.
After I listen to the zingali speakers (those Home monitors I will also listen to too, in addition to the Colosseum set up) I'll let you know if I liked them or not (if you care to know . . . if not I won't say a word)
