Folks like this are usually also opposed to red meat.

After your initial introduction you should have gone out in your backyard and thrown a couple of nice, big, thick, juicy steaks on the grill and let the aroma drift over into their yard -- it probably would have had them crying their eyes out over the thought of how ol' Bessie met her maker at the stockyards!
