Mopar???

I know this is a Ford site but some here has to know or at least be able to come up with a plausible b.s. story. How did Chrysler get this nickname? The other companies are easy to figure out, but why Mopar?

Yes I was bored driving today behind a Dodge with a Mopar tag in the window.

Ive HEARD a few times it was short for MOtor and PARts -but I have no idea if its really true. If it is it sounds a little cheesy to me.

That's where it came from. Years ago genuine Ford parts went under the Rotunda label, GM parts were...GM, I guess and Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Imperial & Desoto parts were labeled MoPar. That's the way I remember it.

Also, the five sides on the Chrysler 'Penta Star' were to represent the five Chrysler brands.

That's better than anything I came up with, which was nothing. Thanks.
