Angry Rock hit my windshield...

Yep, on the way to work this morning in the Stang. Not sure what to do about it though (other than cus, and drive really fast, seemed to help at the time)... It didn't really chip or crack, it's more of a scuff/scrape? Can something like this be polished out, or am I just to live with it? It's low enough on the windshield that I won't be looking at it all the time, but still...

Interesting...same thing happened to me.......sorda.

I got out and it wiped off with my finger. I got lucky. I was in a construction zone....I feel that the county should have to pay for all the chips in my paint.

If it is just a little chip, it should be repairable. Not sure of the cost, but I suspect you can have it done for under $50.

Years ago someone scratched a drivers side window on a new Ranger I had at the time. I found some jewelers rouge at a jeweler (of all places) and picked up a buffing wheel. I put the wheel on a hand held grinder and got most of it out. You could see where it was when the window got fogged up but other than that it was pretty much unnoticable.

Well, if it was just a "chip" my insurance will pay for it without getting into the deductable. That happened about this time last year on my truck. But this isn't really a chip, and isn't very deep.

I might try the buffing thing if I can find a buffing wheel for my 4.5" grinder. Do you think some polishing compound or scratch remover would work? (auto paint stuff that is)

Well, it was some time ago but I think it needs to be something very fine which is why jewelers rouge did the trick. It shouldn't take much and the stuff comes in stick form. Maybe a nearby jeweler will let go of a small piece to try on your stang. To use it you just fire up the buffing wheel and push the rouge onto wheel, then just buff out the scuff mark.

The windshield on my '94 Ranger is covered with tiny chips. And I have one fish-eye chip straight in front of the steering wheel about eyeball high. That one happened about 5 years ago and I've gotten used to it. If I were to get a chip in the windshield of my F150, I'd replace it.

I had a chip in my '04 that eventually turned into a crack that covered about two thirds of the windshield over the course of three days. $341.

Get ahold of some cirrium oxide. Its a buffing compound we use it at the shop from time to time to take out schratches in glass. Its serious stuff though so you gotta be gentle or youll distort the glass. Depending on the severity they have kits for average joe use at eastwoods web site . Look here:

http://www.eastwood.com/shopping/sea...d=glass+polish

I have a pretty nice scratch from the wipers on mine and I havent messed with it yet but it drives me nuts. If you go through with it approach it as if you were buffing out a scatch on your paint and youll be fine.Keep it moving and keep it cool. If the glass gets to hot youll be buying a new windshield. Hope this helps.

Later,

Luis S

P.s. generally if you can feel it with your finger nail its to deep and professional removal is recomended. Just wanted to add that...
