SPORT BIKES..Who has em'

I'm in the market for a sportbike. What do you guys have? I like the feel of the CBR 600 F4i as well as the Yamaha R6s, so yea I want a 600, not quite ready for a literbike yet ...Any good or bad experience with reliability and/or comfort from these bikes...What would you guys get? I ideally want a bike I can jet to and from work on as well as head the the track on the weekends.

I have an '03 Kawi ZX-6R, great bike, damn fast, corners great. I had a 1995 Suzuki Katana, great bike, not as fast as the ZX-6R but fast, cornered great. Drove it like I hated it, for almost 20K still ran good. All of the bikes today are pretty good.

The more important question is how much experiance do you have? A 600cc SuperSport is a pi$$ poor starter bike, unless you like the feel of road rash. If you are just starting I would recomend an older, smaller bike, or a sport-touring bike. They are MUCH more forgiving and cheaper. Learn on something that a few scratches won't hurt then graduate to something faster once you are ready.

yea, I have ridden bikes my whole life, just not a lot of sport bikes. Trust me, I understand what you are saying, I respect the power that these bikes have. You dont really understand that i guess until you roll the throttle back on one and it feels like you are entering "warp drive" Thanks for the safety lesson though

Guess not many people on here are bikers, just wanted some oppinions on what i should get.

I have an 01 CBR929RR. It has 150hp, and only weighs 374 lbs. I was a real worried about all that before I rode it. I have lots of experience, but there was a 17-year lapse, since my last bike. Well, I took to it like a duck to water. The bike is very forgiving and easy to ride. I know it's dangerous to ride a bike on the street, and I feel safer on the drag strip, but this bike seems much safer than my last one, an 82 GPZ 1100 (500 lbs and 130 hp).

Horsepower and good handling might be counted as assets, when considering safety. Your maturity level is really the key factor for which bike may or may not be "too much". You control the throttle, the brakes and your riding style. If you plan to carry passengers, or do any touring, you don't want the 600. A passenger on a small bike can steer it for you in a turn, and will really affect handling, braking, etc.

Good luck. Go to a MSF rider's course periodically, and don't get complacent or over-confident. Check out www.CycleTrader.com

I've got two bikes, a 2000 VFR800fi & a 1989 Hawk GT, pics in my gallery. Since you have experience, you should have no problem on a 600. I've ridden the older CBR 600's ones, not the RR. Except for them not being as comfortable as my VFR, which was designed more as a sport tourer than a full on race bike, I really can't say anything bad about it. If you want all out performance, go for the 600RR. If you want a more comfortable, streetable package, go for the 600F4i. My riding friends say the difference in feel between the two is out of the world and not to even consider the 600F4i and go straight to the 600RR.

KC-10 FE out...

I used to have a 91 FZR600 and i loved it. I keep thinking about getting another bike but, i got into too much trouble and lost my license with my last bike.
How much is insurance on bikes these days. Also my medical insurance at work does not cover recreational vehicle injury's so i would need additional coverage for that. Any good info could persuade me to get another bike.

I have an 04 Ninja ZX6R. I figured the extra 36cc's would help move my fast a**.

Lots of fun

If this is your 1sr bike, I would get a Suzuki SV650 or a standard bike. Yes, they are slower since have less torque and HP however learning on this type of bike wil make riding a lot easier. Plus they hold their vaule so you not take a huge los when you trade up.

A professional rider recently rode a 600cc basically stock bike, to a 9.9 sec 1/4 mile. some of the 600's are like an assault weapon in the wrong hands

Indeed - get a $2000-3000 early to mid 90s 600, or that SV650.

Save the 90hp+ Sportbikes until you've learned on an 70-90hp bike.

Thanks to some of you for the help. I didnt post to start a thread on whether or not I am ready for a sportbike. Like I mentioned above, I am not a spring chicken on bikes, however thanks for the concern. I am still debating whether I want a 600 or a nice cruiser....both would be nice.....
