4x4 naming

If a 4x2 has 4 wheels with 2 of them being powered and a 4x4 has 4 wheels with 4 being powered, what's a dually considered?

I see the 4x4 stickers on the F-350s etc., but shouldn't it be a 6x6 or maybe a 6x4?

How many wheels or axles are driven. It doesn't matter how many or how wide the tires are.

Duel tires are for the weight. If you took, say the two outside wheels off of a duel equipped truck you would “not” be able to safely carry the same load as you would with having all 4 tires on the rear.

So general a duel equipped truck could carry a heavy load in the bed or a heavy tongue weight of a trailer, like one designed to carry heavy construction equipment.

Traction wise, as in 4x4 a duel wheel truck wouldn’t have any more advantage then a single wheel 4x4 and actually, truck for truck, a single wheel would do better for traction in ice and snow then would the same truck with duels.

A dually will do just as well in the snow, but it needs more weight pressing down to get the traction.
