Doing 90 MPH in a 35

Nope. There's no true justification for it. Yep, I feel it was irresponsible. Nope, I'm not sorry for it. Yep, I called my wife while I did it and told her to get my garage door open NOW so I could pull my truck in and hide. Nope, I didn't get caught either.

But my friends, when I heard that first sickening thud in my 04 Supercrew, I had no choice in my mind, and the only other vehicle I passed in that 4.5 mile ride was ANOTHER 04 SuperCrew doing about 15 MPH.

This picture was taken about 30 minutes after the rain portion stopped. It was considered 2" hail. For those of you who have the misfortune of going through one of these storms yourself, you'll know why I decided to be stupid and drive like that. Nice black sky, visible hail shaft, and a sweet funnel cloud to boot that never touched down.

I made it home just before the hail intensified to 2" size. The stuff that hit me was still just about nickel size.

My wife's Taurus, and her brother's Geo are beat to hell though.

Two big sweeping curves, and one hard left onto my home street.

Nobody else (other than the other F-150) was even on the road anywhere. They were all huddled up under any available awning or canopy. If I would have spotted a free spot somewhere, I'd have pulled in it instead.

I am an amateur storm chaser. I've seen a few hail storms, and some nice tornados, but I have a video of a hail storm somewhere in your neck of the woods that shows some baseball mixed with softball size hail. It's from 1994 I think, but man, what a sight. Tree's in that video are just stripped of most limbs and all leaves. Destroyed roofs, cars, etc..., and looked more like an F3 went through.

I would love to see any photos you have! I am planning on doing the Whirlwind Tours next spring, or the spring of 2007, so may get to see some of that live.

What part of Colorado are you in Dude? I saw nothing but sunshine yesterday. Okay, a few clouds but no moisture.

Burlington. Grew up in Denver. Denver got Californicated. Moved out here.

I'm in Westminster all the time though. The company I work for is HQ'd there.

I remember that....kidding.

That's some pretty good lookin' hail stones. You got lucky gettin' that puppy inside. The damage from hail that size would make me cry.

I love weather. I find it the most interesting phenomenon on this planet. Storms are dangerous and destructive, but beautiful at the same time. If I could go back, know now what I didn't know then, I'd be a meteorologist right now.

According to the hail reports some place called Westplains Colorado had 4.25" stones yesterday. I once saw reports of 5" hail on that website in the Texas panhandle. Sometimes those reports are off by a little bit, though.
