Im thanking God to be alive right now.
Last night, approx. 11:30, I was driving my dads '00 Toyota Corolla home on a 2 lane road, following 2 other cars, the 89 GMC 1/2 ton pickup two cars in front of me had my 17 yr old sister and her best friend in it, and I had 2 of my best friends with me. We were all doing approx. 40-45 mph. Drunk driver in a 2005 chevy 4x4 half ton, doing approx the same speed as us, crossed the center line hitting my sister and her friend head on. Car in front of me never hit his brake lights, slamming underneath my sisters vehicle, and I proceeded to rear end this car. I never hit my brakes it happened so fast. Going from 40 to 0 without hitting your brakes is hard on a Toyota Corolla.
First thing I recall climbing out the window was seeing fluid dripping underneath my sisters truck and they were not able to open the doors for the fenders in the way. My friends and I got them out really quick. Drunk driver somehow made it out unscratched and took off on foot....police havn't found him yet.
Sister went to the hospital on a stretcher/neck brace but she's doing just fine--nothing broken, just really bruised and banged up. Everyone else is just fine except for a couple minor cuts/bruises. Got out of the hospital about 4am with everyone else and havn't slept since. The thing that keeps running through my mind is why my buddy and I decided to buckle our seatbelts approx 15 seconds before the accident occured. I had hit a big dip in the road then, and we both instantly reached for our seatbelts, and then, WHAM!
On that dark 2 lane road, I never even touched the brake pedal, going from about 40-45 to 0 almost instantly.
Everyone is ok, and its obvious who is at fault here, as soon as they catch him.
I happened to have my sisters dig. camera in the car and snapped some pics, but she doesnt have a hookup for the computer yet, otherwise I would post some pictures. We did make the morning news on all the local TV stations. Its amazing no one was seriously hurt.
Please everyone, buckle up, dont drive after a few beers, and just simply slow down....its not worth the horrible results you get with car wrecks. Ours could have been MUCH worse.
4 cars all doing 40mph+, bad head-on collision, 2 rear-ends, and 7 people walked away. Someone is watching out for us....Thank You God!!!
RIP '00 Corolla...160,000+ miles and still like brand new...

I'm happy to hear that your sister and her friends are doing ok, that head on must have been frightening for her. Glad you were able to get them out !
Unfortunate about the drunk driver, too many lives are lost from careless and irresponsible drivers. Bet your dad will be soo happy this Father's day for you both to be alive.

Green - so glad you and everyone else made it out OK!
I was in a head on with a drunk driver about 25 years ago, and was lucky to swerve just enough so that we had a glancing blow instead of a T-bone (each vehicle going 45+mph). Without swerving, I am certain my mom, myself and the drunk driver would have died.
The guy that hit me was a habitual drunk driver with 2 previous DUI convictions and one other that he plead down to wreckless driving. He was WASTED when he hit us. Even though his car was missing everything behind the rear axle, gas was everywhere, and he was stuck in a ditch, he was trying to start his car and drive away before I pulled his keys out of his ignition. He claimed to not know he had been in an accident.
Drunk drivers are SCUM. I hope they catch the bastard and throw the book at him before he kills someone.

Very glad you're all going to be ok.
There is no excuse for drunk driving. None. No justification for it at all. Why this country is so tolerant of DUI is beyond my understanding. You get 10 years for attempted murder, and frankly, that's what this clown should get. Permanent loss of license, 10 years in prison, and castration if he ever repeated this offense.
My aunt was not as lucky as you. Neither were a couple of friends of mine a few years ago. When you see what a family has to go through with the loss of life due to drunk driving, and then see some liberal ying yang judge slap the clown's hand and let him off with 2 years jail and some probation, It's enough to make you puke.
As for this joker that hit your sister, someone will be sure to point out that he didn't actually kill someone. But in my opinion, he should be treated at the very least like he did.

Glad everyone is OK, except for the a-hole that caused the accident. They should just shoot him, no excuses for that crap. Drunk drivers don't just kill or not kill, they ruin innocent lives.

Green, that was a miracle you guys just happened to put your seatbelts on like that. Things happen for a reason you know. And yes, I'm very sure the "Big Man Up Above" was looking out for you guys that night.
I'm glad you're all ok. Always wear your seat belt man. You just never know when something like that's going to happen. I have no tolerance for drunk drivers. That's a long story though. I hope they catch the guy and nail his **** to the wall!

i've towed cars...seen the carnage...i would never get in my truck or car without buckleing up...you cant drive a drag car without a 5 pt harness..and drag racing is 1000 times safer than driving down the road...like the old t.v. add used to say "watch out for the other guy" happy everyones ok and there was someone watching over all of you last night...zap!
How did I go all day and miss this thread?
Dude I hate to hear that. Glad everyone is OK. An 80-90 mph wreck is nothing to laugh at. Everyone most defeniatly had someone watching out for all of you guys. As everyone here knows I'm torn and not completely sold on the seat belt thing as being safe. But some wise advise I was given years ago even though I think it came from a country song it still has [roven true time and time again and applies to every aspect of life. "Follow your gut!" If your gut says to put it on, then DO IT immediatly with out question.
