The Price of Freedom

Ladies/Gentlemen:

Just a quick request...

While I don't want to publish a name to the web as this is very fresh and close to home news, I lost a very good friend yesterday in Iraq. Please keep him, his family, his friends, and his fellow MPs and soldiers in your thoughts and prayers. Both his brother and sister are in the same unit...

Needless to say, there are alot of folks who are devistated right now...

Central Command's News Release

Thank you.

-RP-

Prayers and condolences to you, the family, and friends, RP. Nobody appreciates what we have until someone makes us aware of what it costs. God Bless.

Thanks guys...

More information is slowly coming out of this as I communicate with some old friends down in his home town...

Apparently, while he was on patrol, he approached a broken down vehicle or piece of equipment (not military). As he and the other soldier approached, they were ambushed as it was all a staged attack. In short, they lured them over to help them and assassinated him.

Fortunately, if there's any silver lining to this incident, he didn't leave behind a wife or kids. He had a serious girlfriend but, few other ties short of family. Like I mentioned though, his brother and sister are in the same unit and thus, I'm sure they were the first to know what happend; if they didn't witness it.

I had instant messaged him several times while he was over there and, most recently, I talked to him last week while he was home on R&R. Last week.

Please give his Mom a big hug and express our gratitude, sympathies, and apologies from me and my house.

With a tear struck eye I say thank you, and I apologize for the cost of these priveledges known as Freedom and Safety that we enjoy and unfortunately often taken for granted.

I'm going out right now to lower my flag to half mast! Old Glory will fly at 10' today in honor of a soldier that stood 10' tall when he was needed!
