Arrrgghhh !

Just need to vent here a little.

So a week or so ago our AC went out at the house. Which really wasn't that bad, I knew is was on it last leg. So finally the tech is scheduled out this Thursday to give me a quote.

Last night about 10:00 my wife asked me why there was no hot water. I go down in the basement hit the breaker and the reset on the the water tank and low and behold this morning there was no hot water........ It's about 15 years old as well....

Needless to say the shower was awfully cold this morning.......

I hate when crap breaks !

Found this :

http://www.chilipepperapp.com/tankless.htm

Cost

Tankless water heaters cost more than conventional storage tank-type units. Small point-of-use units that deliver 1 gallon (3.8 liters) to 2 gallons (7.6 liters) per minute sell for about $200. Larger gas-fired tankless water heaters that deliver 3 gallons (11.4 liters) to 5 gallons (19 liters) per minute cost $550-$1,000.

I guess you have to consider the initial outlay versus the 30-40% saving on your hot water bill and the unlimited hot water...

My knowledge of them is that people show up with to returnthem 10 minutes before my store is about to close after they 'just bought' it in the morning even though the sticker on the side (and all the rust) shows its at 10 years old. They then demand a new one, and when we wont give it to them, the scream and curse and then just walk out leaving it in the store or take it outside and throw it in the middle of the parking lot.

and the concludes my vast array of knowledge on water heaters.

When I researched them they were about twice the price of a conventional water heater. But the one reason not to buy them is mineral buildup in the radiator-like heating pipes. Where I live we have fairly hard water so they aren't
practical unless one has a water softener unit as well.
