The reason Toyota never had any recalls is because they have got away calling them "service bulletins" in the past. Hopefully now they will have to play by the same rules that we do...

yeh i remmeber a recall on all the 1.8L VVTI motors that were in the corolla type s and in the celica GTS's because they variable valve timing was off from the factory and it was bending valves... so many engines had to be replaced due to severe piston and head damge... all they issued was a service bulliton to any vehicles who hear a ticking noise

Not so sure Faster. I have a buddy who is a Toyota service advisor right down the street from me. He takes care of anything I need on my kiddo's Camry (a'96 model.) He says that all the Toyo's made in U.S. come in with the same silly problems that a lot of domestics have, trim fit and finish etc. The one's made in Japan (incl camrys thru late 90's) just dont have the same issues. Hmmm...

Interesting... Without starting a flame war and insulting any autoworkers present, does anyone know if they use more automation in the factories in Japan than they do in the domestic factories? I know that the robots I work with do a more precise job than I do.

Good question fatman66. I was in no way trying to insult any domestic factory workers. I guess being a die hard Ford man who has also owned a few Toyo's its just nice to see that Toyota's have their problems too and are not the "perfect" vehicle some think.

I haven't heard of anyone sueing over the recall problem like Ford and GM seem to be. Does Toyota hide it better or recall as soon as a problem is verified? It seems the domestics have to be forced to recall.
