Cabelas Fishing Gear

Hey I was looking at getting a new baitcaster setup from Cabelas, does anyone have any experience with the Cabelas Prodigy Reel and/or XML rods?
Also does anyone have any coupon codes or anything for Cabelas to knock the price down a bit?

I purchased a 5' 6" rod before x-mas but went with a different bait caster just for price. I think I have a 10$ off code at home, if it hasn't expired. I'll check tonight...

Far as i can tell, they are made by Pinnacle/Silstar, who bought the Ryobi line, and Ryobi used to make this reel. The only issue with this may be getting parts in the future, and that's only a problem if you repair rather than replace dead reels.

Ambassadeur 5500C3, 6' medium action Ugly Stik, and Stren 12lb mono.

Lifetime purchase. Well, except for the mono.

i have been happy with Ambassadeur reels also, i have a one for saltwater, and a couple for fresh, they are nice and simple and work well.

also, picked up a penn surf reel, and cabela's online price was much higher than other online sources (like sports authority) and their shipping fees are insane as they charged by price point, and not by weight.

i called their customer service folks twice to discuss their shipping policy/fees and ended up not buying from them.

I like to crank with my left hand, so that the rod never leaves my right hand, so my choice of baitcasters is limited, but I've been happy with every Daiwa I ever bought. I'm sure if you are looking for a baitcasting reel, you already have some experience, but as far as rods go, I do a lot of rubber worm and top water fishing, and I find it hard to set the hook with the ugly-stick, for the money I used to like the Rhino rod (not sure they even make it any more) or the Berkley rods.

Yeah I reel left as well so I pretty much need to order what I want online. I really like the Prodigy rig from cabelas but it is very $$ as far as I am concerned. I want a smooth baitcaster reel thats going to last.

Ugly Stick's are nice. I also have a 5' 6" in that line. I had a heck of a time with my bait caster the first few times out. I think I've used my baitcaster more for trolling walleye than catching large mouth..

Eddy, you will get what you pay for, spending a little to get something you don't like, or sort of like, is a waste, spending a few bucks more is worth it. After spending 10 (or more) hours on the water, pick up your spinning rod and then your baitcaster and you'll see why the pros use a baitcaster!

Angry

EddyG88,

I've looked hi and low for that $10 off code. I can't locate it anywhere. The part that really sucks is that I also had a $30.00 Gift card left over from x-mas from my in-laws.

I thought they were both in the catalog and they have mysteriously vanished.....

I'm a little ticked to say the least.

All the talk about nutria and pellet rifles in another thread got me thinking.....
