My dog died this morning

Jamzwayne said that losing a pet is like losing a family member. Let's explore that one.
I have just got off the phone with my wife. Last year she had surgery/chemotherapy/radiotherapy for cancer.
She has just found another lump in her breast so it looks like the treatment was not successfull. If the cancer keeps re-occuring, I'm sure you can all guess where that will lead.
I am in contact with another memberof this board who's wife has terminal cancer too. He, like me also has a young family.
While we are on cheerful subjects, a friend of mine back in England just lost his 10 year old son to Leukemia.
Let me just say this, Triton, I'm sorry you lost your dog but at this stage of my life, dogs, cats and fluffy bunnies don't even ping my radar. You can go out and buy another pet.
I doubt if I will be able to replace my wife of 22 years so easily. It's a matter of perspective.

I held my boxer and comforted him while he had a heart attack, trying his hardest to stay alive, and licking me all the way. He died in my arms. But it didn't hurt nearly as bad as when my (active and healthy) Grandfather had a heart attack a few month's back (He was Don Paul Sr. and my oldest son is Don Paul IV).
I was over the loss of my dog in a few days, I don't ever think I will be over the loss of my grandfather! I agree, a dog is nothing like a family member. You can get another dog, you can't get another grandfather!!
But I am very sorry to hear about your loss, my recommendation is to IMMEDIATLEY go and get a puppy. Believe me, you will feel much better!
Wow, this has gotten out of hand.
I believe that an animal (regardless of breed) can make such an impact on ones feelings when passing, to the point that it hurts like you have lost a family member. True it's not the same. I should have been more careful with my words.
