If you tell anyone these true facts be sure to mention that you read them on the internet.

Red face

Pape Razi was a member of the Hitler Jugend in WWII.
Served in the army as artillerist and deserted shortly before the end of the war and surrendered to the Americans.

And he is from old Europe.

Thank God I am a protestant.

No wonder, he didn't mind the white smoke.

Seeing as you mentioned it, I will translate a bit.
He was a member of the Hitler Youth and an anti-aircraft gunner near the BMW factory.

I suppose he doesn't have to "follow orders" now he is Da Man.

Could have been worse I suppose, at least he was only a **** and not a paedophile.

P.S. Nice subtle joke about the white smoke

Now the conversation has gone south...just what I was afraid of happening. Let's not forget that Catholics are the "original" Christians, or for you tech-geeks Christians v1.0.0

Catholics are about love and forgiveness...if you lived in Germany during that time and were an your 20's you too would have been enlisted in Hitler's Youth Army--not unlike our Boy Scouts today. If he committed sins in his youth, and atoned for them, then our faith says he is absolved of his sins. That doesn't excuse the small group of adultrous/pedophilic priests and those (in America) who covered for them...not confronting the sin and "facing the music" was their error.

Let us not masacre all priests because of a few. There are a number of ministers who hace been arrested for drug sales/distribution, some notables who have been caught fleecing their flock (i.e. stealing money) and one on trial for murder...and this was just this year!

Anyway, for the sake of the beloved, can we please keep the comments respectful? Thanks!

I thought the 12 disciples were Jews?

Catholics are about love and forgiveness...

you mean Ratzi was forgiving those reformist Americans when he threatened them? And all the love we have for our women that they should still be treated as second class beings, inferior to men, in the church. We also forgive our child molesting priests by hiding them and moving them to other towns to molestall over again.

No argument there. But are we going to discuss all of those Jewish art, artifacts and gold baubles that the Catholic church secured after the fall of the *****?

That doesn't excuse the small group of adultrous/pedophilic priests and those (in America) who covered for them...not confronting the sin and "facing the music" was their error.

it also doesn't excuse JP2 or Ratzi who are both very aware of the depth of the pedophilia and that fact that it continues even as I type this.

Let us not masacre all priests because of a few.

No but the leaders need to be accountable. Just like when we blame Bill Ford for the rear end vibe or cancelation of the Lightning.

no further questions for this witness your honor.

For the most part, the comments here have been respectful. For the record I have not heard one joke about the death of JP2. When Diana died... jokes onthe street within 24 hours. When the Columbia crew died... jokes about being all over Florida were on the street within 24 hours. So yes we are being respectful.

Well,

Lets see if Pope Benedict XVI can fill John Paul II's shoes.....

....by getting his own comic book!

This Colombian guy is making a comic book series called "El Increible Homopater" ....The Incredible Popeman!

He has an anti-devil cape, and chastity pants too.

The Incredible Popeman!

I'm sure some Catholics will find it offensive, but I'm Catholic--and I can't help but laugh and smile.

I'm not really that devout, but I thought JP2 was great pope... even though he was the only one I knew. In fact, about a month ago I had a dream where I got to meet the Pope; and we were talking and having a lot of beers together--and then he lit up a joint, and we passed it around until we were really feeling good--and then he asked me to come fly with him. The next thing I knew, we were flying over Rome like Superman..... and I remember I couldnt stop thinking what a cool old guy this was.....

...and then I woke up to my alarm, thought about what was just going on in my head (trust me, I was sober the night before), and immediately proceeded to laugh my *** off....

You know, I really think they're all secretive about the conclave just because its a big wild party for all the cardinals.... and the last one standing is Pope.

Its good to laugh.

Requiescat in pace... Ioannes Paulus II.

Let's see what you can do Benedict XVI...

catch22 I think the cartoon is funny, but unfortunately I don't read Italian....don't think there's much in the text that's offensive.

J150 I just wanted to make sure the discussion stayed on topic which was the "New Pope" and not Open Season on Catholics. I know there are problems in the church, and I also recognize that the Americas are only a small portion of the Catholic Church. As far as I know, the indiscretions in the "church" are primarily with the Americans. This is not a global problem.

Anyway, I hope Benedict XVI maintains the reformist movement in the church, and opens the church to more members, but I have a gut feeling that the next pope (after "Pope Benny") will be the one to revolutionize the church....

Maybe someone can set me strait about Caotholics. I've always wondered why you guys/gals pray to Virgin Mary, Saint whatever, and confess your sins to a priest. Why not just get on your knees and pray to God and ask for forgiveness or whatever it is you want?

Glad someone explained the whole name change thing, I was curious about that myself.

Like most things, their are always a FEW that make everyone else look bad (referring to the pedophilias). The media and the rest of the world blows it up into a big huge issue because they can't stand 'people of faith' anyways. They do the same thing to the Evangelist, if one of them makes a mistake or is corrupt, then the whole lot of them are mistaken and corrupt. That's just the world we live in.

I see shots being taken at the church leader... not it's members. Please don't think that.

And yes, this is a global problem. Developing countries don't always have the freedom of press and internet that Americans do. There is also a code of silence for the victims in African/South American countries.

That being said... it IS the American branch of the Church that is pushing the hardest for accountability and reforms. And that really pi$$es off the old country. Sounds kind of like Iraq, the UN etc. doesn't it?
