Bye Bye my F-150 :(
This sucks, gas is going up and up and up. I can't afford to drive my own truck becuase the first parcheck I gt has to goto my uncle for the payment and the second one I get of the month goes to the tank which now is around $75 every 2 weeks! I'm going to have to hand it over to my dad and get something smaller and more efficiant on gas. I don't want to do it but I can't be working for my tank. My next truck choice is a Ranger 5 speed 4 cylinder. I figure with that gas will last a long time and the truck will as well.
Will you buy your F150 back from your dad later on or what?
Seems like everybody is going to other choices now that gas prices are in the way.
I myself am looking into the Focuses for now.... even though I love the F150s dearly!

that sucks, im 16 with a truck and i cant afford gas either. before i got my license i wanted a car i had my eye set on a for 93 Taurus SHO 220 hp. i am glad i didnt get it because i have a problem with speed. and then i got my first truck and now all i want is trucks. i want to get a car also so i can go places. my truck is getting 7 mpg.
I'm sorry to hear that.
I think the rising gas prices are a conspiracy the government has come up with to force us all into sub-compacts and hybrids. I'm holding out as long as I can...they'll never take me alive!!
OK, well maybe that's a bit dramatic but I'm not going to let 'em see me sweat...
I don't sweat...I perspire!!

I am in the same boat as jmeyerholtz is, 16, just got my lisence.
And my truck gets bad gas mileage and i need to get a smaller vehicle so i can actually drive around to places i need to go.
wild-mtn-rose...i don't think the govt is going to force us into hybrids and sub compacts any time soon.....they are making too much money with these oil companies. Oil companies are to blame for the gas prices....they know we will still just keep on buying gas even with the prices through the roof.
what if every one just parked the vehicles for a week, and just rode a bike....then you would see a major change in gas prices....if we could pull something like that off for a week (which is never gona happen) we might actually get some where with trying to reduce gas prices, if people didn't absolutely need gas all the time...what would the oil companies do? they's probably colapse and go bankrupt.
Yeah...even that sounds a little messed up...but the only way to reduce gas prices is to retaliate against these corrupt oil companies that think they can screw us over whenever they want.

The real problem is refining capacity, the USA just doesn't have enough.
The oil and gas markets almost work like ebay. You have to bid a price and buy it at what you think it will be worth in the future. If there's lots of buyers (like there are now) the price goes up, simple as that.
The oil companies are not corrupt. They are in business to make money for their shareholders. They employ people and pay their taxes. The reason they make so much money is volume. If you only make a penny profit on a gallon of gas but sell a billion gallons, you make a big profit. Again simple economics.
If you want to see the price come down, campaign for more refineries in your area.
Guys trust me it gets worse.
When I was 16 I had a 69 F100 got a whoping 6-8mpg "cause I cant keep my foot off of the gas..even still today" anyway. I was working part time making minimum wage gas was 1/2 what it is now. But about the same in comparison to wages. I was buying almost a tank every other day some times filling up twice a day on the week ends. I make ALOT more than that now BUT I also have 2 kids, house payment utilities, another vehicle "wifes" which has to be an SUV "NO gas saver for her
" to put gas in. So I have less money left to spend now than I did then.
If your complaining now then just wait until you get bills and really don't have any money.

Garage the truck...
Use protection...
That is exactly why I just bought a 97 Kia. Yep, it's a peice of crap, but it gets 35 MPG and doesn't cost much to fill up compared to the truck. I am keeping the truck, but I will use the kia to run back and forth to work. I never thought I would buy another car this small....
I have a 1990 Maxima that will go over 200K this week. I use it as my daily commute driver, usually three days a week. I travel at least 100 miles per day. I get 26 MPG with it.
I drive the Max not only to save the gas money but to prevent my warranty from running out in a year from all highway mileage. I pay to much for the truck to just let her sit idle, so I do drive it at night around the city and at least two days to work.
I'd spend twice as much in gas if I drove the truck every day to and from work...I'm already spending $300-400 per month in gas between the Max and truck, not counting my sons car...good thing the wife fills her own.

Good choice! You can pick up a fairly brand new one for cheap. Hell, that's what I did.

Yep, everyone is getting rid of their v8s, suvs, and trucks now and getting gas savers.
I seen a almost new tahoe z71 yesterday forsale for pretty cheap. I am thinking about getting it. I will not give in and buy a gas saver
