Tree-huggers still on Ford's case

It's bad enough that they killed the Excursion. Now this...

Funny how they target Rush Limbaugh for some reason.

Funnier is that they think Woody Harrelson will somehow help their cause. He's a FREAKING ACTOR! He PRETENDS to do stuff in movies. HE HAS NO CREDIBILITY OFF THE SCREEN!!! He smokes a lot of weed and his dad is in prison for murder. Why would anyone who wants to be taken seriously want to be associated with Woody Harrelson???

Environmentalists: Ford Climate Study Falls Short

WardsAuto.com,_Apr 1 2005

A group of environmental watchdogs will ask dealers to write Ford CEO Bill Ford to “chart a course to eliminate global-warming emissions,” just as the auto maker promises a climate report by year’s end.

Ford Motor Co. will play the fool for a day, at least in the eyes of environmental advocacy groups who long have been targeting the auto maker with a “Jumpstart Ford” campaign.

The auto maker said on March 31 that it will complete a climate study by year’s end that evaluates the performance of its vehicles and facilities when it comes to greenhouse gases and strategize a plan for the future. Groups targeting Ford say it’s not enough.

Bill Ford targeted by environmentalists once again.

“I think it’s good that they decided to put something out to document their performance, but it doesn’t sound like they’re going to make any firm commitments,” a Sierra Club spokesman says. “We’re looking for commitments.”

The Sierra Club, along with Rainforest Action Network, Ecopledge.com and Global Exchange, kicks off an “Adopt-a-Dealer” program April 1 aimed at using community activists willing to contact a dealer. The goal is to encourage dealers to write a letter to convince Ford CEO Bill Ford “to use existing, cost-effective technology to improve the auto maker’s bottom-of-the-barrel fuel economy and chart a course to eliminate global-warming emissions.”

The effort, the latest in a line of advertising and protest campaigns launched under the “Jumpstart Ford” banner, will include public support from actor Woody Harrelson.

The launch of the program is coupled with national “Fossil Fool’s Day,” which will pool Ford in with other “Fossil Fools” including President George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh, and Exxon Mobil Corp. CEO Lee Raymond “who have refused to acknowledge the severity of global warming and failed to take the necessary steps to cut U.S. emissions,” a Sierra Club press release says.

As for Ford’s forthcoming report, it “will acknowledge the business implications of greenhouse gas emissions, with reference to government policies and regulations, Ford’s product and manufacturing facilities actions, and advanced technology development,” the auto maker says in a prepared statement.

Ford will work with groups that have pressured it to take similar action in the past at annual investor meetings, including the Interfaith Center of Corporate Responsibility and a Boston-based coalition of investors and environmental groups called Ceres. The auto maker says the new report will build on Ford’s annual corporate citizen report, which lays out the greenhouse gas performance of products and facilities.

The new study will include a strategic analysis of climate-change issues, including the potential impact of various policy and regulatory alternatives and implications for future innovations._

Do they know the best selling vehicle in America (our beloved F150) has been a low-emission vehicle since 2000? A LOW EMMISION VEHICLE for pete's sake. Jerks! What more do they want?

People equate V-8 with the destruction of the environment.

Anything above V-8 (Gas) or Diesel (Period) is a death toll... Especially the Excursion...

That said, I bet none of these people walk to where they are going; they all have cars, and they are all a part of the problem; if this is a problem...

If the US had all electric cars, global warming woudl still persist because most other industrialized nations, or soon to be industrialized nations, don't have the emission controls we have in place in the US for our cars, facotries, etc...

It's another kick- in the 80's it was acid/poison rain....

The sad part is two-fold, while the planet is getting warmer, no one really knows if it's a natural progression (hell, where we are now was once covered by ice) or we are really contributing to it, and of all the pollutants released into the atmosphere, motor vehicles are responsible for less than two percent. I'm all for breathing better and less pollution, but they'd get a lot farther if they made some sense.

what's sad is the MASS of people do not know we are at the end of an iceage and the EARTH has for billions of years "WARMED UP" after an Ice age...

I HATE ENVIRONMENALISTS!

Good points, mommalie. Within the auto industry, some studies show that motor-vehicle CO2 production is more like a couple of tenths of one percent.

One volcano erupts and you get more CO2 emitted than all other sources combined for decades to come.

Still not sure why Rush Limbaugh is a target for greenhouse gas reducion. They can't be taking the tired "he's full of hot air" angle can they?

There is a chance that global warming has nothing to due with cars. This could be a natural process for the earth. In world history perspective the earth is a couple billion years old. How many ices ages occured in that time? probably a couple. The ice caps are going to melt and the whole process with the ice age will probably start over again. And Volcanoes have been errupting for hundreds of millions of year. Cars and trucks have been only around 50 or 60 years. (Not including the Model T era. I'm talking about when everyone started to own a car.) The world started to become industrial about 100 years ago. In world perspective thats nothing. Holes in the ozone just don't happen over night.

I agree with you. It was a cold and windy winter. I hate winter now.

My data is actually old, but even erring on the high end, it's a small percentage. The Rush argument is a lot more legitimate!

Did you know the hole in the ozone layer is actually shrinking and the air quality has improved dramatically since the 70's? When all that is happening around us but the average temperatures continue to rise (and we're talking about 1° every century or something to that affect) how can they blame it on emissions? I personally believe that Global Warming has less to do with man made pollution and more to do with Mother Nature, maybe she's hit Menopause, damn hot flashes!!

There is no “proven” global warming and there is no hole in the ozone. Scientist have stated that there never was a hole or if there was there is no longer a hole.

The environmental wackos need to move to China and/or India. China has been on a major growth path for the past 3 years or so. Their economy is growing an average of 15%.

15% is HUGE and that is why you see gas prices, or more specifically the cost of a barrel of oil skyrocketing. NOT because of Americans and their “gas guzzlers” that are far more environmentally friendly but because the Chinese are giving up their bikes in HUGE numbers and purchasing their own gas guzzlers…

India too is seeing or in the beginning of a HUGE economic build up and soon they too will be purchasing gas guzzlers…

One of the MAJOR groups responsible for the higher gas prices we Americans pay is environmental wackos. They will NOT let anyone build new refineries so more gas can be refined more efficiently and at a lower cost due to competition…

Environmental wackos are SO lost, especially that moron Kennedy that flies around the country in a private jet sucking up TONS of fuel to whine to everyone else how they should not be driving what they wish…
