Hand gun questions.
Hand gun questions.
I know we have a lot of hand gun buffs here, and we have a few police officers here (BigSherm)...so, I figured this would be the best place in the world to ask these few questions.
I know the price varies per weapon (you'll have to excuse that term. I was in the USMC, and thats WHAT THEY ARE), but how do I know if I am getting a good deal or not? I haven't decided on a purchase yet, but I am seriously thinking about getting either a:
Beretta M9/92F My #1 choice since I have experience with it.
Glock G18C Select Fire #2 choice cause I hear alot of good things about the Glock
~OR~
Desert Eagle .50 AE #3 choice cause I have a feeling someday it might be worth a lot of money.
I am basically wanting to get a handgun for 2 reasons.
1. Home security (of course the Desert Eagle is an over kill)
2. Go to the range and relieve some stress. I love the feel of firing a weapon. I miss my M16A2
Any thoughts?

.50 is a huge gun, too big for protection as the round carries so much energy it won't expand in a body...plus it'll go thru you wall...and your neighbor's wall...and his neighbor's wall... too much penetration.
If it's just for protection, I think your best bet is the gun you have the most experieice with, as dropping a bad guy has more to do with shot placement/accuracy than round size.
That being said, I love my glock 19 as it's what I have the most experience with. But Glocks have a much different feel/balance/trigger compared to conventional guns.

Another thing you are going to find with the DE, are you able to hold it? I have tried these and find them tough to hold onto they are so large. Very uncomfortable for me. My fingers need to be longer and I don't have a small hand.
For others, I would take a look at SIG P226 in 40 or some other caliber. I prefer these over 9mm. 9mm is just a bit too wimpy. Also look at a 45. Of all my handguns, the Kimber 45 I have is the one I am most comfortable with and the most fun to shoot. I do have a Beretta 92F in 40 and am not that impressed with it. It's not a bad gun, but I just don't like it compared to the Sig, which is a 40 that will convert to 357Sig. I also have a 357 Ruger Blackhawk and a Dan Wesson 44 mag. Both are fun to shoot, but again not as much as the 45.

The Beretta 92FS is a nice gun. Too big for concealed carry in summer. Not good for small hands because of the doublestack magazine.
The Glock 18C select fire is NOT available to civilians. Try a regular Glock. The G19 is nice and equivalent to the 92FS. Also look at the Walther P99 series. It's more of an advanced Glock.
The Desert Eagle .50 is mostly used in movies because in real life nobody can carry it without getting a hernia or bleed from the ears when shooting. Most of them are resold within a year once the owner realizes it's a totally useless gun. Except to make lots of noise and .50 size holes in paper.
If you miss your M16 go and buy a AR-15. Sure it's only semiauto but everything else is identical. If you have U$8000 you can get the full auto option.

I think I'd like to fire a Glock and then fire an M9 to see the ifference. I have heard 2 different things and some say the difference isnt that noticeable, and some say it is.

the desert eagle is way overkill for home protection, and not a very acurate weopon, i bought mine in 98 real desert eagle made in isreal not in amarica, got it for $600 now it is worth $1600 i dont know if value is still rising or not but it would be a good buy for showing of at the range, if you buy the eagle get the 44 mag not the 50ae i got the 50ae and perchased the 44 mag barrel later due to the price of rounds and the 44 mag is actually more powrefull(more FPS, and FPE) the M9(berretta 92f) is also a very good gun that i own it would be better sutted to home defence and i would recomend it, hope this helps, here are my guns,
my pistol that i use for home pertection or conceal and carry is my colt 1911 45 just something to think about

I would get either a sig 226 or a 229 in .357sig. Great all around round and if you want to shoot cheaper, you can buy a .40 barrel. Thr rest of the gun is the same. Of all the semi-autos I have (beretta 92 included) my 226 and 229 in .357 sig are the best period. I could go on and on on why you should get either sig and not another gun. If you want a 50 caliber, get the smith and wesson 500 magnum. More powerful than .50ae (actually the most powerful handgun cartridge around) and a LOT more fun to shoot. Also, in my opinion, a lot more accurite than the desert eagle. I hava A 6.5" PC version and that's what I'd reccomend on the .500.

Unless I had a reloader, prolly be best to stick with the M9?
