I completey understand... heres a heads up though...

Give them a few more years and more people will be switching to them. They are getting to be a much more user freindly interface, and reliability is unsrupassed. Mainly because the OS is a much more simple program compared to Windows and a better file system. Really the main thing that is hard to get use to as far as using it is the no right click. Everything else is pretty much the same as a pc atleast from OS 7.1 on. More software is making thierselfs compatable all the time even Microsoft is jumping on the band wagon with MS Office Suite for Mac. Not quit as many features more of a stripped down version of MS Office but has the basics.
I still use the PC alot too. I have 2 AMD K-6's, 1 P III, and 1 P IV. The AMD's are old so they are slow but very few conflicts with any of the software that my daughters use on them, "surfing teh net, small games, etc". P III is mine and the P IV is in wifes laptop. They all run for what they were built or bought for. However I can't even run R6 on my P III but can on my both of my daughters K6's. I haven't tried it on the P IV yet, we just got it still setting it up and fine tuning it.

okay how about this. what CPU do u have, whats the current clock speed and whats the idle temp and max load temp. if u want u can all screen shot ur performance chart from a Sandra test and we will see who has a better performing chip for the price. so we will all stop giving out personal opinions and post facts

I got an Amd Sempron 3000. Lets do the benchmarks for a few to see what it turns out. The guy with the overheating pentium 4. You sure that the heatsink was put on correctly. If the heatsink is put on backwards it will cause that problem. Believe you me its an easy mistake.

What it we are going to benchmark? P4 is going to beat out the AMD on things, the AMD will beat the P4 on others. Jesus, do a goole search and read the 70000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000 other reviews and benchmarks on the issue. The FACT is it comes down to personal prefrences. Im not a P4 fanboy or a AMD hater, I have both I like both. I choose the P4 for reasons that are my own, I could give a rip what anyone else uses. Its your PC do what you want.

I wouldnt swear to anything thats been atleast 2 years ago.. How hot are the P4's suppose to be? My wifes lap top has a P4, we bought it used and it had some problems, I fixed most of them but it gets really really hot. It will almost burn my legs through my pants after about 10-15 mins. But it has never set the alarm off nor shut down like my brothers did. Is this normal?

Mmm the one Im on now stays around 36-40 C idle and never goes above 53 C under load with say FS 2004 running or some such thing. The other P4 machine is a DELL and doesnt have any way to monitor the CPU temp on its MOBO. My AMD runs about the same temps.

I dont know if HP has thermal sensors on their MOBO's or not, try downloading Sisoft Sandra or Motherboard monitor and see if they register a temp for your CPU.
